Matthew 6
American Standard-ASV1901 (ASV)
6 Ref But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.
7 Ref And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Ref Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
King James Version (KJV)
6 Ref But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 Ref But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Ref Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Bible in Basic English (BBE)
6 Ref But when you make your prayer, go into your private room, and, shutting the door, say a prayer to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.
7 Ref And in your prayer do not make use of the same words again and again, as the Gentiles do: for they have the idea that God will give attention to them because of the number of their words.
8 Ref So be not like them; because your Father has knowledge of your needs even before you make your requests to him.
