^{31 Ref} Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation, and to what are they like?

^{32 Ref} They are like unto children that sit in the marketplace, and call one to another; who say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not weep.

^{33 Ref} For John the Baptist is come eating no bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a demon.

^{34 Ref} The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

^{35 Ref} And wisdom is justified of all her children.

^{36 Ref} And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he entered into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.

^{37 Ref} And behold, a woman who was in the city, a sinner; and when she knew that he was sitting at meat in the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster cruse of ointment,

^{38 Ref} and standing behind at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

^{31 Ref} And the Lord said, `To what, then, shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

^{32 Ref} they are like to children, to those sitting in a market-place, and calling one to another, and saying, We piped to you, and ye did not dance, we mourned to you, and ye did not weep!

^{34 Ref} the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and ye say, Lo, a man, a glutton, and a wine drinker, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners;

^{35 Ref} and the wisdom was justified from all her children.'

^{36 Ref} And a certain one of the Pharisees was asking him that he might eat with him, and having gone into the house of the Pharisee he reclined (at meat),

^{37 Ref} and lo, a woman in the city, who was a sinner, having known that he reclineth (at meat) in the house of the Pharisee, having provided an alabaster box of ointment,

^{38 Ref} and having stood behind, beside his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with the tears, and with the hairs of her head she was wiping, and was kissing his feet, and was anointing with the ointment.

^{37 Ref} Behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that he was reclining in the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster jar of ointment.
