^{1 Ref} So have love for the Lord your God, and give him worship, and keep his laws and his decisions and his orders at all times.

^{2 Ref} And be certain in your minds this day; for these words are not said to your children, who have had no experience of the training of the Lord your God, and who have not seen his great power or his strong hand and his stretched-out arm,

^{3 Ref} Or his signs and wonders which he did in Egypt, to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and all his land;

^{4 Ref} And what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses and their war-carriages; how he made the waters of the Red Sea come up over them when they went after you, and how the Lord put an end to them even to this day;

^{5 Ref} And what he did for you in the waste land, till you came to this place;

^{6 Ref} And what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben; when they went down into the open mouth of the earth, with their families and their tents and every living thing which was theirs, before the eyes of all Israel:

^{7 Ref} But your eyes have seen all the great works of the Lord which he has done.

^{8 Ref} So keep all the orders which I give you today, so that you may be strong, and go in and take the land which is to be your heritage;

^{9 Ref} And that your days may be long in the land which the Lord gave by an oath to your fathers and to their seed after them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

^{10 Ref} For the land where you are going is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come, where you put in your seeds, watering them with your foot, like a planted garden:

^{11 Ref} But the land where you are going is a land of hills and valleys, drinking in the rain of heaven:

^{12 Ref} A land cared for by the Lord your God: the eyes of the Lord your God are on it at all times from one end of the year to the other.

^{13 Ref} And it will be that if you truly give ear to the orders which I put before you this day, loving the Lord your God and worshipping him with all your heart and all your soul,

^{14 Ref} Then I will send rain on your land at the right time, the early rains and the late rains, so that you may get in your grain and your wine and your oil.

^{15 Ref} And I will give grass in your fields for your cattle, so that you may have food in full measure.

^{16 Ref} But take care that your hearts are not turned to false ways so that you become servants and worshippers of other gods;

^{17 Ref} For if you do so, the wrath of the Lord will be burning against you, and the heaven will be shut up so that there is no rain and the land will give no fruit; and in a very little time you will be cut off from the good land which the Lord is giving you.

^{18 Ref} So keep these words deep in your heart and in your soul, and have them fixed on your hand for a sign and marked on your brow;

^{19 Ref} Teaching them to your children, and talking of them when you are at rest in your house or walking by the way, when you go to sleep and when you get up:

^{20 Ref} Writing them on the pillars of your houses and over the doors of your towns:

^{21 Ref} So that your days, and the days of your children, may be long in the land which the Lord by his oath to your fathers said he would give them, like the days of the eternal heavens.

^{22 Ref} For if you take care to keep all the orders which I give you, and to do them; loving the Lord your God and walking in all his ways and being true to him:

^{23 Ref} Then the Lord will send these nations in flight before you, and you will take the lands of nations greater and stronger than yourselves.

^{24 Ref} Every place where you put your foot will be yours: from the waste land and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates as far as the Great Sea, will be the limits of your land.

^{25 Ref} All people will give way before you: for the Lord your God will put the fear of you on all the land through which you go, as he has said.

^{26 Ref} Today I put before you a blessing and a curse:

^{27 Ref} The blessing if you give ear to the orders of the Lord your God, which I give you this day:

^{28 Ref} And the curse if you do not give ear to the orders of the Lord your God, but let yourselves be turned from the way which I have put before you this day, and go after other gods which are not yours.

^{29 Ref} And when the Lord your God has taken you into the land of your heritage, you are to put the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.

^{30 Ref} Are they not on the other side of Jordan, looking west, in the land of the Canaanites living in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, by the holy tree of Moreh?

^{31 Ref} For you are about to go over Jordan to take the heritage which the Lord your God is giving you, and it will be your resting-place.

^{32 Ref} And you are to take care to keep all the laws and the decisions which I put before you today.

^{1 Ref} Therefore you shall love Yahweh your God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his ordinances, and his commandments, always.

^{2 Ref} Know you this day: for I don't speak with your children who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm,

^{3 Ref} and his signs, and his works, which he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and to all his land;

^{4 Ref} and what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red Sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how Yahweh has destroyed them to this day;

^{5 Ref} and what he did to you in the wilderness, until you came to this place;

^{6 Ref} and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben; how the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Israel:

^{7 Ref} but your eyes have seen all the great work of Yahweh which he did.

^{8 Ref} Therefore shall you keep all the commandment which I command you this day, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land, where you go over to possess it;

^{9 Ref} and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give to them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey.

^{10 Ref} For the land, where you go in to possess it, isn't as the land of Egypt, from whence you came out, where you sowed your seed, and watered it with your foot, as a garden of herbs;

^{11 Ref} but the land, where you go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, [and] drinks water of the rain of the sky,

^{12 Ref} a land which Yahweh your God cares for: the eyes of Yahweh your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.

^{13 Ref} It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to my commandments which I command you this day, to love Yahweh your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

^{14 Ref} that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, and your new wine, and your oil.

^{15 Ref} I will give grass in your fields for your cattle, and you shall eat and be full.

^{16 Ref} Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

^{17 Ref} and the anger of Yahweh be kindled against you, and he shut up the sky, so that there shall be no rain, and the land shall not yield its fruit; and you perish quickly from off the good land which Yahweh gives you.

^{18 Ref} Therefore shall you lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul; and you shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for symbols between your eyes.

^{19 Ref} You shall teach them your children, talking of them, when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

^{20 Ref} You shall write them on the door-posts of your house, and on your gates;

^{21 Ref} that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.

^{22 Ref} For if you shall diligently keep all this commandment which I command you, to do it, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave to him;

^{23 Ref} then will Yahweh drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.

^{24 Ref} Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the hinder sea shall be your border.

^{25 Ref} There shall no man be able to stand before you: Yahweh your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you on all the land that you shall tread on, as he has spoken to you.

^{26 Ref} Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse:

^{27 Ref} the blessing, if you shall listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I command you this day;

^{28 Ref} and the curse, if you shall not listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which you have not known.

^{29 Ref} It shall happen, when Yahweh your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, that you shall set the blessing on Mount Gerizim, and the curse on Mount Ebal.

^{30 Ref} Aren't they beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites who dwell in the Arabah, over against Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?

^{31 Ref} For you are to pass over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which Yahweh your God gives you, and you shall possess it, and dwell therein.

^{32 Ref} You shall observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances which I set before you this day.

^{1 Ref} `And thou hast loved Jehovah thy God, and kept His charge, and His statutes, and His judgments, and His commands, all the days;

^{2 Ref} and ye have known to-day -- for it is not your sons who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of Jehovah your God, His greatness, His strong hand, and His stretched-out arm,

^{3 Ref} and His signs, and His doings, which He hath done in the midst of Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to all his land;

^{4 Ref} and that which He hath done to the force of Egypt, to its horses, and to its chariot, when He hath caused the waters of the Red Sea to flow against their faces in their pursuing after them, and Jehovah destroyeth them, unto this day;

^{5 Ref} and that which He hath done to you in the wilderness, till your coming in unto this place;

^{6 Ref} and that which He hath done to Dathan, and to Abiram, sons of Eliab, sons of Reuben, when the earth hath opened her mouth and swalloweth them, and their houses, and their tents, and all that liveth, which is at their feet, in the midst of all Israel:

^{7 Ref} `-- But `it is' your eyes which are seeing all the great work of Jehovah, which He hath done;

^{8 Ref} and ye have kept all the command which I am commanding thee to-day, so that ye are strong, and have gone in, and possessed the land whither ye are passing over to possess it,

^{9 Ref} and so that ye prolong days on the ground which Jehovah hath sworn to your fathers to give to them and to their seed -- a land flowing with milk and honey.

^{10 Ref} `For the land whither thou art going in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt whence ye have come out, where thou sowest thy seed, and hast watered with thy foot, as a garden of the green herb;

^{11 Ref} but the land whither ye are passing over to possess it, `is' a land of hills and valleys; of the rain of the heavens it drinketh water;

^{12 Ref} a land which Jehovah thy God is searching; continually `are' the eyes of Jehovah thy God upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the latter end of the year.

^{13 Ref} `And it hath been -- if thou hearken diligently unto My commands which I am commanding you to-day, to love Jehovah your God, and to serve Him with all your heart, and with all your soul --

^{14 Ref} that I have given the rain of your land in its season -- sprinkling and gathered -- and thou hast gathered thy corn, and thy new wine, and thine oil,

^{15 Ref} and I have given herbs in thy field for thy cattle, and thou hast eaten, and been satisfied.

^{16 Ref} `Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be enticed, and ye have turned aside, and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them,

^{17 Ref} and the anger of Jehovah hath burned against you, and He hath restrained the heavens, and there is no rain, and the ground doth not give her increase, and ye have perished hastily from off the good land which Jehovah is giving to you.

^{18 Ref} `And ye have placed these my words on your heart, and on your soul, and have bound them for a sign on your hand, and they have been for frontlets between your eyes;

^{19 Ref} and ye have taught them to your sons, by speaking of them in thy sitting in thy house, and in thy going in the way, and in thy lying down, and in thy rising up,

^{20 Ref} and hast written them on the side-posts of thy house, and on thy gates,

^{21 Ref} so that your days are multiplied, and the days of your sons, on the ground which Jehovah hath sworn to your fathers to give to them, as the days of the heavens on the earth.

^{22 Ref} `For, if ye diligently keep all this command which I am commanding you -- to do it, to love Jehovah your God, to walk in all His ways, and to cleave to Him,

^{23 Ref} then hath Jehovah dispossessed all these nations from before you, and ye have possessed nations, greater and mightier than you;

^{24 Ref} every place on which the sole of your foot treadeth is yours; from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Phrat, even unto the farther sea is your border;

^{25 Ref} no man doth station himself in your presence; your dread and your fear doth Jehovah your God put on the face of all the land on which ye tread, as He hath spoken to you.

^{26 Ref} `See, I am setting before you to-day a blessing and a reviling:

^{27 Ref} the blessing, when ye hearken unto the commands of Jehovah your God, which I am commanding you to-day;

^{28 Ref} and the reviling, if ye do not hearken unto the commands of Jehovah your God, and have turned aside out of the way which I am commanding you to-day, to go after other gods which ye have not known.

^{29 Ref} `And it hath been, when Jehovah thy God doth bring thee in unto the land whither thou art going in to possess it, that thou hast given the blessing on mount Gerizim, and the reviling on mount Ebal;

^{30 Ref} are they not beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going in of the sun, in the land of the Canaanite, who is dwelling in the plain over-against Gilgal, near the oaks of Moreh?

^{31 Ref} for ye are passing over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which Jehovah your God is giving to you; and ye have possessed it, and dwelt in it,

^{32 Ref} and observed to do all the statutes and the judgments which I am setting before you to day.
