John 19
Bible in Basic English (BBE)
28 Ref After this, being conscious that all things had now been done so that the Writings might come true, Jesus said, Give me water.
29 Ref Now there was a vessel ready, full of bitter wine, and they put a sponge full of it on a stick and put it to his mouth.
30 Ref So when Jesus had taken the wine he said, All is done. And with his head bent he gave up his spirit.
31 Ref Now it was the day of getting ready for the Passover, and so that the bodies might not be on the cross on the Sabbath (because the day of that Sabbath was a great day), the Jews made a request to Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
World English Bible (WEB)
28 Ref After this, Jesus, seeing{NU, TR read "knowing" instead of "seeing"} that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty."
29 Ref Now a vessel full of vinegar was set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and held it at his mouth.
30 Ref When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished." He bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.
31 Ref Therefore the Jews, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies wouldn't remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

31 Ref The Jews, therefore, that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, since it was the preparation, (for that sabbath day was a great one,) asked of Pilate that their legs may be broken, and they taken away.
