^{1 Ref} And God said all these words:

^{2 Ref} I am the Lord your God who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house.

^{3 Ref} You are to have no other gods but me.

^{4 Ref} You are not to make an image or picture of anything in heaven or on the earth or in the waters under the earth:

^{5 Ref} You may not go down on your faces before them or give them worship: for I, the Lord your God, am a God who will not give his honour to another; and I will send punishment on the children for the wrongdoing of their fathers, to the third and fourth generation of my haters;

^{6 Ref} And I will have mercy through a thousand generations on those who have love for me and keep my laws.

^{7 Ref} You are not to make use of the name of the Lord your God for an evil purpose; whoever takes the Lord's name on his lips for an evil purpose will be judged a sinner by the Lord

^{8 Ref} Keep in memory the Sabbath and let it be a holy day.

^{9 Ref} On six days do all your work:

^{10 Ref} But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on that day you are to do no work, you or your son or your daughter, your man-servant or your woman-servant, your cattle or the man from a strange country who is living among you:

^{11 Ref} For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and everything in them, and he took his rest on the seventh day: for this reason the Lord has given his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy.

^{12 Ref} Give honour to your father and to your mother, so that your life may be long in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

^{13 Ref} Do not put anyone to death without cause.

^{14 Ref} Do not be false to the married relation.

^{15 Ref} Do not take the property of another.

^{16 Ref} Do not give false witness against your neighbour.

^{17 Ref} Let not your desire be turned to your neighbour's house, or his wife or his man-servant or his woman-servant or his ox or his ass or anything which is his.

^{18 Ref} And all the people were watching the thunderings and the flames and the sound of the horn and the mountain smoking; and when they saw it, they kept far off, shaking with fear.

^{19 Ref} And they said to Moses, To your words we will give ear, but let not the voice of God come to our ears, for fear death may come on us.

^{20 Ref} And Moses said to the people, Have no fear: for God has come to put you to the test, so that fearing him you may be kept from sin.

^{21 Ref} And the people kept their places far off, but Moses went near to the dark cloud where God was.

^{22 Ref} And the Lord said to Moses, Say to the children of Israel, You yourselves have seen that my voice has come to you from heaven

^{23 Ref} Gods of silver and gods of gold you are not to make for yourselves.

^{24 Ref} Make for me an altar of earth, offering on it your burned offerings and your peace-offerings, your sheep and your oxen: in every place where I have put the memory of my name, I will come to you and give you my blessing.

^{25 Ref} And if you make me an altar of stone do not make it of cut stones: for the touch of an instrument will make it unclean.

^{26 Ref} And do not go up by steps to my altar, for fear that your bodies may be seen uncovered.

^{1 Ref} `And God speaketh all these words, saying,

^{2 Ref} I `am' Jehovah thy God, who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants.

^{3 Ref} `Thou hast no other Gods before Me.

^{4 Ref} `Thou dost not make to thyself a graven image, or any likeness which `is' in the heavens above, or which `is' in the earth beneath, or which `is' in the waters under the earth.

^{5 Ref} Thou dost not bow thyself to them, nor serve them: for I, Jehovah thy God, `am' a zealous God, charging iniquity of fathers on sons, on the third `generation', and on the fourth, of those hating Me,

^{6 Ref} and doing kindness to thousands, of those loving Me and keeping My commands.

^{7 Ref} `Thou dost not take up the name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing, for Jehovah acquitteth not him who taketh up His name for a vain thing.

^{8 Ref} `Remember the Sabbath-day to sanctify it;

^{9 Ref} six days thou dost labour, and hast done all thy work,

^{10 Ref} and the seventh day `is' a Sabbath to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not do any work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy handmaid, and thy cattle, and thy sojourner who is within thy gates, --

^{11 Ref} for six days hath Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that `is' in them, and resteth in the seventh day; therefore hath Jehovah blessed the Sabbath-day, and doth sanctify it.

^{12 Ref} `Honour thy father and thy mother, so that thy days are prolonged on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee.

^{13 Ref} `Thou dost not murder.

^{14 Ref} `Thou dost not commit adultery.

^{15 Ref} `Thou dost not steal.

^{16 Ref} `Thou dost not answer against thy neighbour a false testimony.

^{17 Ref} `Thou dost not desire the house of thy neighbour, thou dost not desire the wife of thy neighbour, or his man-servant, or his handmaid, or his ox, or his ass, or anything which `is' thy neighbour's.'

^{18 Ref} And all the people are seeing the voices, and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mount smoking; and the people see, and move, and stand afar off,

^{19 Ref} and say unto Moses, `Speak thou with us, and we hear, and let not God speak with us, lest we die.'

^{20 Ref} And Moses saith unto the people, `Fear not, for to try you hath God come, and in order that His fear may be before your faces -- that ye sin not.'

^{21 Ref} And the people stand afar off, and Moses hath drawn nigh unto the thick darkness where God `is'.

^{22 Ref} And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Thus dost thou say unto the sons of Israel: Ye -- ye have seen that from the heavens I have spoken with you;

^{23 Ref} ye do not make with Me gods of silver, even gods of gold ye do not make to yourselves.

^{24 Ref} `An altar of earth thou dost make for Me, and thou hast sacrificed on it thy burnt-offerings and thy peace-offerings, thy flock and thy herd; in every place where I cause My name to be remembered I come in unto thee, and have blessed thee.

^{25 Ref} `And if an altar of stones thou dost make to Me, thou dost not build them of hewn work; when thy tool thou hast waved over it, then thou dost pollute it;

^{26 Ref} neither dost thou go up by steps on Mine altar, that thy nakedness be not revealed upon it.

^{1 Ref} And God spake all these words, saying,

^{2 Ref} I am Jehovah thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

^{3 Ref} Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

^{4 Ref} Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, nor any likeness `of any thing' that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

^{5 Ref} Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them, for I Jehovah thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate me,

^{6 Ref} and showing lovingkindness unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

^{7 Ref} Thou shalt not take the name of Jehovah thy God in vain; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

^{8 Ref} Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

^{9 Ref} Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work;

^{10 Ref} but the seventh day is a sabbath unto Jehovah thy God: `in it' thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

^{11 Ref} for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

^{12 Ref} Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.

^{13 Ref} Thou shalt not kill.

^{14 Ref} Thou shalt not commit adultery.

^{15 Ref} Thou shalt not steal.

^{16 Ref} Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

^{17 Ref} Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.

^{18 Ref} And all the people perceived the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they trembled, and stood afar off.

^{19 Ref} And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

^{20 Ref} And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not.

^{21 Ref} And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

^{22 Ref} And Jehovah said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.

^{23 Ref} Ye shall not make `other gods' with me; gods of silver, or gods of gold, ye shall not make unto you.

^{24 Ref} An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt-offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in every place where I record my name I will come unto thee and I will bless thee.

^{25 Ref} And if thou make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stones; for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

^{26 Ref} Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not uncovered thereon.
