2 Thessalonians 2

World English Bible (WEB)

1 Ref Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to him, we ask you

2 Ref not to be quickly shaken in your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by letter as from us, saying that the day of Christ had come.

3 Ref Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be, unless the departure comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction,

4 Ref he who opposes and exalts himself against all that is called God or that is worshiped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself up as God.

5 Ref Don't you remember that, when I was still with you, I told you these things?

6 Ref Now you know what is restraining him, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season.

7 Ref For the mystery of lawlessness already works. Only there is one who restrains now, until he is taken out of the way.

8 Ref Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will kill with the breath of his mouth, and bring to nothing by the brightness of his coming;

9 Ref even he whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 Ref and with all deception of wickedness for those who are being lost, because they didn't receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 Ref Because of this, God sends them a working of error, that they should believe a lie;

12 Ref that they all might be judged who didn't believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

13 Ref But we are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth;

14 Ref to which he called you through our Gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 Ref So then, brothers, stand firm, and hold the traditions which you were taught by us, whether by word, or by letter.

16 Ref Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,

17 Ref comfort your hearts and establish you in every good work and word.

1 Ref Now we beseech you, brethren, touching the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together unto him;

2 Ref to the end that ye be not quickly shaken from your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by epistle as from us, as that the day of the Lord is just at hand;

3 Ref let no man beguile you in any wise: for `it will not be,' except the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition,

4 Ref he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the temple of God, setting himself forth as God.

5 Ref Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6 Ref And now ye know that which restraineth, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season.

7 Ref For the mystery of lawlessness doth already work: only `there is' one that restraineth now, until he be taken out of the way.

8 Ref And then shall be revealed the lawless one, whom the Lord Jesus shall slay with the breath of his mouth, and bring to nought by the manifestation of his coming;

9 Ref `even he', whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 Ref and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 Ref And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie:

12 Ref that they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

13 Ref But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

14 Ref whereunto he called you through our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 Ref So then, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye were taught, whether by word, or by epistle of ours.

16 Ref Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,

17 Ref comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

Bible in Basic English (BBE)

1 Ref Now as to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and our meeting with him, it is our desire, my brothers,

2 Ref That you may not be moved in mind or troubled by a spirit, or by a word, or by a letter as from us, with the suggestion that the day of the Lord is even now come;

3 Ref Give no belief to false words: because there will first be a falling away from the faith, and the revelation of the man of sin, the son of destruction,

4 Ref Who puts himself against all authority, lifting himself up over all which is named God or is given worship; so that he takes his seat in the Temple of God, putting himself forward as God.

5 Ref Have you no memory of what I said when I was with you, giving you word of these things?

6 Ref And now it is clear to you what is keeping back his revelation till the time comes for him to be seen.

7 Ref For the secret of evil is even now at work: but there is one who is keeping back the evil till he is taken out of the way.

8 Ref And then will come the revelation of that evil one, whom the Lord Jesus will put to death with the breath of his mouth, and give to destruction by the revelation of his coming;

9 Ref Even the one whose coming is marked by the working of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,

10 Ref And with every deceit of wrongdoing among those whose fate is destruction; because they were quite without that love of the true faith by which they might have salvation.

11 Ref And for this cause, God will give them up to the power of deceit and they will put their faith in what is false:

12 Ref So that they all may be judged, who had no faith in what is true, but took pleasure in evil.

13 Ref But it is right for us to give praise to God at all times for you, brothers, loved by the Lord, because it was the purpose of God from the first that you might have salvation, being made holy by the Spirit and by faith in what is true:

14 Ref And in this purpose he gave you a part through the good news of which we were the preachers, even that you might have part in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 Ref So then, brothers, be strong in purpose, and keep the teaching which has been given to you by word or by letter from us.

16 Ref Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who had love for us and has given us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,

17 Ref Give you comfort and strength in every good work and word.
