⁴³ The king of Israel went to his house sullen and angry, and came to Samaria.

⁴ Ahab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers. He laid him down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

⁸ The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, there is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh, Micaiah the son of Imlah: but I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. Jehoshaphat said, "Don't let the king say so."

¹³ Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.

¹² Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered.

¹³ Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, be of the seed of the Jews, you shall not prevail against him, but shall surely fall before him.

² For resentment kills the foolish man, And jealousy kills the simple.

³ The foolishness of man subverts his way; His heart rages against Yahweh.
