¹ This is a faithful saying: if a man seeks the office of an overseer{Or, bishop}, he desires a good work.

²⁸ Take heed, therefore, to yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the assembly of the Lord and{TR, NU omit "the Lord and"} God which he purchased with his own blood.

² Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly;

¹⁵ The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

²⁵ For you were going astray like sheep; but are now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer{"Overseer" is from the Greek episkopon, which can mean overseer, curator, guardian, or superintendent.} of your souls.

⁷ For the overseer must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain;

¹ Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ; To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers{The word translated "overseers" (episkopos) can also be translated superintendents, guardians, curators, or bishops.} and deacons{Or, servants}:

¹⁹ Brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,

²⁰ let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins.

²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, 'Let his habitation be made desolate, Let no one dwell therein,' and, 'Let another take his office.'

¹⁵ For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or as a meddler in other men's matters.

¹⁵ looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby the many be defiled;

⁸ This saying is faithful, and concerning these things I desire that you affirm confidently, so that those who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men;

¹¹ This saying is faithful: For if we died with him, We will also live with him.

⁹ This saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance.

² The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;

³ not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;

⁴ one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;

⁵ (but if a man doesn't know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the assembly of God?)

⁶ not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

⁷ Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into reproach and the snare of the devil.

¹⁴ We exhort you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient toward all.

¹² for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ;

¹³ For I speak to you who are Gentiles. Since then as I am an apostle to Gentiles, I glorify my ministry;

¹⁰ Even so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner repenting."

³⁰ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. He who is wise wins souls.
