⁹ Let no one be enrolled as a widow under sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,

² The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;

³⁶ There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,

³⁷ and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn't depart from the temple, worshipping with fastings and petitions night and day.

¹⁰ But to the married I command--not I, but the Lord--that the wife not leave her husband

¹¹ (but if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband not leave his wife.

³⁹ A wife is bound by law for as long as her husband lives; but if the husband is dead, she is free to be married to whoever she desires, only in the Lord.

⁴⁰ But she is happier if she stays as she is, in my judgment, and I think that I also have God's Spirit.

¹² Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

³ Honor widows who are widows indeed.

⁴ But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety towards their own family, and to repay their parents, for this is{TR adds "good and"} acceptable in the sight of God.

¹¹ But refuse younger widows, for when they have grown wanton against Christ, they desire to marry;

¹⁴ I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for reviling.
