⁵ as when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to hew wood, and his hand fetches a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle, and lights on his neighbor, so that he dies; he shall flee to one of these cities and live:

²⁵ and the congregation shall deliver the manslayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, where he was fled: and he shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.

⁵ But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water; and he cried, and said, Alas, my master! for it was borrowed.

⁶ The man of God said, Where fell it? He shown him the place. He cut down a stick, and cast it in there, and made the iron to swim.

⁷ He said, Take it up to you. So he put out his hand, and took it.

¹² A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge; But the simple pass on, and suffer for it:

² A man shall be as a hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest, as streams of water in a dry place, as the shade of a great rock in a weary land.
