¹ Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

²² Listen to your father who gave you life, And don't despise your mother when she is old.

²⁰ My son, keep your father's commandment, And don't forsake your mother's teaching.

²⁰ Children, obey your parents in all things, for this pleases the Lord.

²¹ Fathers, don't provoke your children, so that they won't be discouraged.

²² Servants, obey in all things those who are your masters according to the flesh, not just when they are looking, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing God.

²³ And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men,

²⁴ knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

²⁵ But he who does wrong will receive again for the wrong that he has done, and there is no partiality.

⁸ My son, listen to your father's instruction, And don't forsake your mother's teaching:

²⁷ He sings before men, and says, 'I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, And it didn't profit me.

¹²⁸ Therefore I consider all of your precepts to be right. I hate every false way.

¹¹ There is a generation that curses their father, And doesn't bless their mother.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks at his father, And scorns obedience to his mother: The ravens of the valley shall pick it out, The young eagles shall eat it.

⁹ Who is wise, that he may understand these things? Who is prudent, that he may know them? For the ways of Yahweh are right, And the righteous walk in them; But the rebellious stumble in them.

² Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.

⁵ Servants, be obedient to those who according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ;

⁶ not in the way of service only when eyes are on you, as men-pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord.

¹⁷ Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.

⁴ But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety towards their own family, and to repay their parents, for this is{TR adds "good and"} acceptable in the sight of God.

¹⁸ If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, who will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chasten him, will not listen to them;

³ "'Each one of you shall respect his mother and his father. You shall keep my Sabbaths. I am Yahweh your God.

¹³ Therefore subject yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether to the king, as supreme;

⁸ Yahweh's precepts are right, rejoicing the heart. Yahweh's commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes.

¹⁴ The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father's commandment: but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; and you have not listened to me.

¹² Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.

² that you receive her in the Lord, in a way worthy of the saints, and that you assist her in whatever matter she may need from you, for she herself also has been a helper of many, and of my own self.

⁵⁸ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord's work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

⁷ and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan Aram.
