⁴ Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"

³ Jesus answered him, "Most assuredly, I tell you, unless one is born anew,{The word translated "anew" here and in John 3:7 (anothen) also means "again" and "from above".} he can't see the Kingdom of God."

¹¹ The woman said to him, "Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From where then have you that living water?

¹² Are you greater than our father, Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, as did his children, and his cattle?"

¹⁴ Now the natural man doesn't receive the things of God's Spirit, for they are foolishness to him, and he can't know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

⁵³ Jesus therefore said to them, "Most assuredly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don't have life in yourselves.

⁶⁰ Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying! Who can listen to it?"

¹⁸ For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are saved it is the power of God.
