⁵ "The farmer went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some fell along the road, and it was trampled under foot, and the birds of the sky devoured it.

²³ For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a mirror;

²⁴ for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

¹ Therefore we ought to pay greater attention to the things that were heard, lest perhaps we drift away.

¹¹ Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

¹² Those along the road are those who hear, then the devil comes, and takes away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved.

²⁶ He said, "The Kingdom of God is as if a man should cast seed on the earth,

²⁷ and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, he doesn't know how.

²⁸ For the earth bears fruit: first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.

²⁹ But when the fruit is ripe, immediately he puts forth the sickle, because the harvest has come."

¹⁵ These are the ones by the road, where the word is sown; and when they have heard, immediately Satan comes, and takes away the word which has been sown in them.

² He taught them many things in parables, and told them in his teaching,

³ "Listen! Behold, the farmer went out to sow,

⁴ and it happened, as he sowed, some seed fell by the road, and the birds{TR adds "of the air"} came and devoured it.

³⁷ He answered them, "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man,

²⁴ He set another parable before them, saying, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field,

²⁵ but while people slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel{darnel is a weed grass (probably bearded darnel or lolium temulentum) that looks very much like wheat until it is mature, when the difference becomes very apparent.} also among the wheat, and went away.

²⁶ But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then the darnel appeared also.

¹⁸ "Hear, then, the parable of the farmer.

¹⁹ When anyone hears the word of the Kingdom, and doesn't understand it, the evil one comes, and snatches away that which has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown by the roadside.

³ He spoke to them many things in parables, saying, "Behold, a farmer went out to sow.

⁴ As he sowed, some seeds fell by the roadside, and the birds came and devoured them.

¹³ "You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.

¹¹⁸ You reject all those who stray from your statutes, For their deceit is in vain.

¹¹ The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.
