⁴⁰ They ridiculed him. But he, having put them all out, took the father of the child and her mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was lying.

¹⁴ Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, "Get up! Get out of this place, for Yahweh will destroy the city." But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking.

¹⁴ The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him.

⁵³ They were ridiculing him, knowing that she was dead.

⁵⁴ But he put them all outside, and taking her by the hand, he called, saying, "Child, arise!"

⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, With the contempt of the proud.

⁷ All those who see me mock me. They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying,

⁴ I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor, I, who called on God, and he answered. The just, the blameless man is a joke.

¹⁹ But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they ridiculed us, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that you do? will you rebel against the king?

³³ He went in therefore, and shut the door on them both, and prayed to Yahweh.

³² Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, "We want to hear you again concerning this."
