³ For Herod had laid hold of John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.

¹² Now when Jesus heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee.

¹⁷ For Herod himself had sent out and arrested John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, for he had married her.

¹⁹ but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias, his brother's{TR reads "brother Philip's instead of brother's"} wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,

²⁰ added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.

² Now when John heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples

¹⁹ Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him, but she couldn't,

²² When the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young lady, "Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you."

¹ Now there were some present at the same time who told him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.

²³ John also was baptizing in Enon near Salim, because there was much water there. They came, and were baptized.

²⁴ For John was not yet thrown into prison.
