¹⁷ He left them, and went out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.

¹⁸ Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia{15 stadia is about 2.8 kilometers or 1.7 miles} away.

¹ Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister, Martha.

¹¹ Jesus entered into the temple in Jerusalem. When he had looked around at everything, it being now evening, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

⁵⁰ He led them out as far as Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

¹⁹ When evening came, he went out of the city.

¹ When they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethsphage{TR reads "Bethphage" instead of "Bethsphage"} and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

⁴ An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and there will be no sign given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah." He left them, and departed.

¹ Then six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

² So they made him a supper there. Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with him.

³ Mary, therefore, took a pound{a Roman pound of 12 ounces, or about 340 grams} of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.

²⁹ It happened, when he drew near to Bethsphage{TR, NU read "Bethpage" instead of "Bethsphage"} and Bethany, at the mountain that is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,

³⁸ It happened as they went on their way, he entered into a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

³⁷ All the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them, for they were very much afraid. He entered into the boat, and returned.

³⁸ But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him that he might go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,

⁷ Jesus withdrew to the sea with his disciples, and a great multitude followed him from Galilee, from Judea,

⁶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

¹² Though they bring up their children, Yet I will bereave them, so that not a man shall be left. Indeed, woe also to them when I depart from them!

⁸ Be instructed, Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from you; lest I make you a desolation, a land not inhabited.
