¹ I commend to you Phoebe, our sister, who is a servant{literally, deacon} of the assembly that is at Cenchreae,

¹⁸ Paul, having stayed after this many more days, took his leave of the brothers,{The word for "brothers" here and where the context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."} and sailed from there for Syria, together with Priscilla and Aquila. He shaved his head in Cenchreae, for he had a vow.

¹ Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as do some, letters of commendation to you or from you?

⁵⁰ For whoever does the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother."

¹⁰ being approved by good works, if she has brought up children, if she has been hospitable to strangers, if she has washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, and if she has diligently followed every good work.

¹⁵ And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,

²² Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently:

²³ having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever.
