John 17

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ref These things spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to the heaven, and said -- `Father, the hour hath come, glorify Thy Son, that Thy Son also may glorify Thee,

2 Ref according as Thou didst give to him authority over all flesh, that -- all that Thou hast given to him -- he may give to them life age-during;

3 Ref and this is the life age-during, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and him whom Thou didst send -- Jesus Christ;

4 Ref I did glorify Thee on the earth, the work I did finish that Thou hast given me, that I may do `it'.

5 Ref `And now, glorify me, Thou Father, with Thyself, with the glory that I had before the world was, with Thee;

6 Ref I did manifest Thy name to the men whom Thou hast given to me out of the world; Thine they were, and to me Thou hast given them, and Thy word they have kept;

7 Ref now they have known that all things, as many as Thou hast given to me, are from Thee,

8 Ref because the sayings that Thou hast given to me, I have given to them, and they themselves received, and have known truly, that from Thee I came forth, and they did believe that Thou didst send me.

9 Ref `I ask in regard to them; not in regard to the world do I ask, but in regard to those whom Thou hast given to me, because Thine they are,

10 Ref and all mine are Thine, and Thine `are' mine, and I have been glorified in them;

11 Ref and no more am I in the world, and these are in the world, and I come unto Thee. Holy Father, keep them in Thy name, whom Thou hast given to me, that they may be one as we;

12 Ref when I was with them in the world, I was keeping them in Thy name; those whom Thou hast given to me I did guard, and none of them was destroyed, except the son of the destruction, that the Writing may be fulfilled.

13 Ref `And now unto Thee I come, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves;

14 Ref I have given to them Thy word, and the world did hate them, because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world;

15 Ref I do not ask that Thou mayest take them out of the world, but that Thou mayest keep them out of the evil.

16 Ref `Of the world they are not, as I of the world am not;

17 Ref sanctify them in Thy truth, Thy word is truth;

18 Ref as Thou didst send me to the world, I also did send them to the world;

19 Ref and for them do I sanctify myself, that they also themselves may be sanctified in truth.

20 Ref `And not in regard to these alone do I ask, but also in regard to those who shall be believing, through their word, in me;

21 Ref that they all may be one, as Thou Father `art' in me, and I in Thee; that they also in us may be one, that the world may believe that Thou didst send me.

22 Ref `And I, the glory that thou hast given to me, have given to them, that they may be one as we are one;

23 Ref I in them, and Thou in me, that they may be perfected into one, and that the world may know that Thou didst send me, and didst love them as Thou didst love me.

24 Ref `Father, those whom Thou hast given to me, I will that where I am they also may be with me, that they may behold my glory that Thou didst give to me, because Thou didst love me before the foundation of the world.

25 Ref `Righteous Father, also the world did not know Thee, and I knew Thee, and these have known that Thou didst send me,

26 Ref and I made known to them Thy name, and will make known, that the love with which Thou lovedst me in them may be, and I in them.'

American Standard-ASV1901 (ASV)

1 Ref These things spake Jesus; and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that the son may glorify thee:

2 Ref even as thou gavest him authority over all flesh, that to all whom thou hast given him, he should give eternal life.

3 Ref And this is life eternal, that they should know thee the only true God, and him whom thou didst send, `even' Jesus Christ.

4 Ref I glorified thee on the earth, having accomplished the work which thou hast given me to do.

5 Ref And now, Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

6 Ref I manifested thy name unto the men whom thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them to me; and they have kept thy word.

7 Ref Now they know that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are from thee:

8 Ref for the words which thou gavest me I have given unto them; and they received `them', and knew of a truth that I came forth from thee, and they believed that thou didst send me.

9 Ref I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for those whom thou hast given me; for they are thine:

10 Ref and all things that are mine are thine, and thine are mine: and I am glorified in them.

11 Ref And I am no more in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name which thou hast given me, that they may be one, even as we `are'.

12 Ref While I was with them, I kept them in thy name which thou hast given me: and I guarded them, and not one of them perished, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13 Ref But now I come to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy made full in themselves.

14 Ref I have given them thy word; and the world hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 Ref I pray not that thou shouldest take them from the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil `one'.

16 Ref They are not of the world even as I am not of the world.

17 Ref Sanctify them in the truth: thy word is truth.

18 Ref As thou didst send me into the world, even so sent I them into the world.

19 Ref And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.

20 Ref Neither for these only do I pray, but for them also that believe on me through their word;

21 Ref that they may all be one; even as thou, Father, `art' in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us: that the world may believe that thou didst send me.

22 Ref And the glory which thou hast given me I have given unto them; that they may be one, even as we `are' one;

23 Ref I in them, and thou in me, that they may be perfected into one; that the world may know that thou didst send me, and lovedst them, even as thou lovedst me.

24 Ref Father, I desire that they also whom thou hast given me be with me where I am, that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25 Ref O righteous Father, the world knew thee not, but I knew thee; and these knew that thou didst send me;

26 Ref and I made known unto them thy name, and will make it known; that the love wherewith thou lovedst me may be in them, and I in them.

Bible in Basic English (BBE)

1 Ref Jesus said these things; then, lifting his eyes to heaven, he said, Father, the time has now come; give glory to your Son, so that the Son may give glory to you:

2 Ref Even as you gave him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all those whom you have given to him.

3 Ref And this is eternal life: to have knowledge of you, the only true God, and of him whom you have sent, even Jesus Christ.

4 Ref I have given you glory on the earth, having done all the work which you gave me to do.

5 Ref And now, Father, let me have glory with you, even that glory which I had with you before the world was.

6 Ref I have given knowledge of your name to the men whom you gave me out of the world: yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your words.

7 Ref Now it is clear to them that whatever you have given to me comes from you:

8 Ref Because I have given them the words which you gave to me; and they have taken them to heart, and have certain knowledge that I came from you, and they have faith that you sent me.

9 Ref My prayer is for them: my prayer is not for the world, but for those whom you have given to me, because they are yours

10 Ref (All mine are yours, and yours are mine) and I have glory in them.

11 Ref And now I will be no longer in the world, but they are in the world and I come to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name which you have given to me, so that they may be one even as we are one.

12 Ref While I was with them I kept them safe in your name which you have given to me: I took care of them and not one of them has come to destruction, but only the son of destruction, so that the Writings might come true.

13 Ref And now I come to you; and these things I say in the world so that they may have my joy complete in them.

14 Ref I have given your word to them; and they are hated by the world, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 Ref My prayer is not that you will take them out of the world, but that you will keep them from the Evil One.

16 Ref They are not of the world any more than I am of the world.

17 Ref Make them holy by the true word: your word is the true word.

18 Ref Even as you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.

19 Ref And for them I make myself holy, so that they may be made truly holy.

20 Ref My prayer is not for them only, but for all who will have faith in me through their word;

21 Ref May they all be one! Even as you, Father, are in me and I am in you, so let them be in us, so that all men may come to have faith that you sent me.

22 Ref And the glory which you have given to me I have given to them, so that they may be one even as we are one;

23 Ref I in them, and you in me, so that they may be made completely one, and so that it may become clear to all men that you have sent me and that they are loved by you as I am loved by you.

24 Ref Father, it is my desire that these whom you have given to me may be by my side where I am, so that they may see my glory which you have given to me, because you had love for me before the world came into being.

25 Ref Father of righteousness, I have knowledge of you, though the world has not; and to these it is clear that you sent me;

26 Ref And I have given to them knowledge of your name, and will give it, so that the love which you have for me may be in them and I in them.
