Matthew 1

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

20 Ref And on his thinking of these things, lo, a messenger of the Lord in a dream appeared to him, saying, `Joseph, son of David, thou mayest not fear to receive Mary thy wife, for that which in her was begotten `is' of the Holy Spirit,

21 Ref and she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.'

22 Ref And all this hath come to pass, that it may be fulfilled that was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,

23 Ref `Lo, the virgin shall conceive, and she shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel,' which is, being interpreted `With us `he is' God.'

24 Ref And Joseph, having risen from the sleep, did as the messenger of the Lord directed him, and received his wife,

25 Ref and did not know her till she brought forth her son -- the first-born, and he called his name Jesus.

Bible in Basic English (BBE)

20 Ref But when he was giving thought to these things, an angel of the Lord came to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, have no fear of taking Mary as your wife; because that which is in her body is of the Holy Spirit.

21 Ref And she will give birth to a son; and you will give him the name Jesus; for he will give his people salvation from their sins.

22 Ref Now all this took place so that the word of the Lord by the prophet might come true,

23 Ref See, the virgin will be with child, and will give birth to a son, and they will give him the name Immanuel, that is, God with us.

24 Ref And Joseph did as the angel of the Lord had said to him, and took her as his wife;

25 Ref And he had no connection with her till she had given birth to a son; and he gave him the name Jesus.
