Hebrews 12

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

5 Ref and ye have forgotten the exhortation that doth speak fully with you as with sons, `My son, be not despising chastening of the Lord, nor be faint, being reproved by Him,

6 Ref for whom the Lord doth love He doth chasten, and He scourgeth every son whom He receiveth;'

7 Ref if chastening ye endure, as to sons God beareth Himself to you, for who is a son whom a father doth not chasten?

8 Ref and if ye are apart from chastening, of which all have become partakers, then bastards are ye, and not sons.

9 Ref Then, indeed, fathers of our flesh we have had, chastising `us', and we were reverencing `them'; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of the spirits, and live?

10 Ref for they, indeed, for a few days, according to what seemed good to them, were chastening, but He for profit, to be partakers of His separation;

King James Version (KJV)

5 Ref And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6 Ref For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7 Ref If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8 Ref But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

9 Ref Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

10 Ref For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

Bible in Basic English (BBE)

5 Ref And you have not kept in mind the word which says to you as to sons, My son, do not make little of the Lord's punishment, and do not give up hope when you are judged by him;

6 Ref For the Lord sends punishment on his loved ones; everyone whom he takes as his son has experience of his rod.

7 Ref It is for your training that you undergo these things; God is acting to you as a father does to his sons; for what son does not have punishment from his father?

8 Ref But if you have not that punishment of which we all have our part, then you are not true sons, but children of shame.

9 Ref And again, if the fathers of our flesh gave us punishment and had our respect, how much more will we be under the authority of the Father of spirits, and have life?

10 Ref For they truly gave us punishment for a short time, as it seemed good to them; but he does it for our profit, so that we may become holy as he is.
