1 Corinthians 10
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 Ref And I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
2 Ref and all to Moses were baptized in the cloud, and in the sea;
3 Ref and all the same spiritual food did eat,
4 Ref and all the same spiritual drink did drink, for they were drinking of a spiritual rock following them, and the rock was the Christ;
5 Ref but in the most of them God was not well pleased, for they were strewn in the wilderness,
6 Ref and those things became types of us, for our not passionately desiring evil things, as also these did desire.
7 Ref Neither become ye idolaters, as certain of them, as it hath been written, `The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play;'
8 Ref neither may we commit whoredom, as certain of them did commit whoredom, and there fell in one day twenty-three thousand;
9 Ref neither may we tempt the Christ, as also certain of them did tempt, and by the serpents did perish;
10 Ref neither murmur ye, as also some of them did murmur, and did perish by the destroyer.
11 Ref And all these things as types did happen to those persons, and they were written for our admonition, to whom the end of the ages did come,
12 Ref so that he who is thinking to stand -- let him observe, lest he fall.
13 Ref No temptation hath taken you -- except human; and God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able, but He will make, with the temptation, also the outlet, for your being able to bear `it'.
14 Ref Wherefore, my beloved, flee from the idolatry;
15 Ref as to wise men I speak -- judge ye what I say:
16 Ref The cup of the blessing that we bless -- is it not the fellowship of the blood of the Christ? the bread that we break -- is it not the fellowship of the body of the Christ?
17 Ref because one bread, one body, are we the many -- for we all of the one bread do partake.
18 Ref See Israel according to the flesh! are not those eating the sacrifices in the fellowship of the altar?
19 Ref what then do I say? that an idol is anything? or that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything? --
20 Ref `no,' but that the things that the nations sacrifice -- they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not wish you to come into the fellowship of the demons.
21 Ref Ye are not able the cup of the Lord to drink, and the cup of demons; ye are not able of the table of the Lord to partake, and of the table of demons;
22 Ref do we arouse the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than He?
23 Ref All things to me are lawful, but all things are not profitable; all things to me are lawful, but all things do not build up;
24 Ref let no one seek his own -- but each another's.
25 Ref Whatever in the meat-market is sold eat ye, not inquiring, because of the conscience,
26 Ref for the Lord's `is' the earth, and its fulness;
27 Ref and if any one of the unbelieving do call you, and ye wish to go, all that is set before you eat, nothing inquiring, because of the conscience;
28 Ref and if any one may say to you, `This is a thing sacrificed to an idol,' -- do not eat, because of that one who shewed `it', and of the conscience, for the Lord's `is' the earth and its fulness:
29 Ref and conscience, I say, not of thyself, but of the other, for why `is it' that my liberty is judged by another's conscience?
30 Ref and if I thankfully do partake, why am I evil spoken of, for that for which I give thanks?
31 Ref Whether, then, ye eat, or drink, or do anything, do all to the glory of God;
32 Ref become offenceless, both to Jews and Greeks, and to the assembly of God;
33 Ref as I also in all things do please all, not seeking my own profit, but that of many -- that they may be saved.

1 Ref Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 Ref and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 Ref and all ate the same spiritual food;
4 Ref and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.
5 Ref However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Ref Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Ref Neither be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play."
8 Ref Neither let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.
9 Ref Neither let us test the Lord, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.
10 Ref Neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.
11 Ref Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.
12 Ref Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn't fall.
13 Ref No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
14 Ref Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
15 Ref I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say.
16 Ref The cup of blessing which we bless, isn't it a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn't it a communion of the body of Christ?
17 Ref Because we, who are many, are one bread, one body; for we all partake of the one bread.
18 Ref Consider Israel after the flesh. Don't those who eat the sacrifices have communion with the altar?
19 Ref What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
20 Ref But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God, and I don't desire that you would have communion with demons.
21 Ref You can't both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can't both partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.
22 Ref Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
23 Ref "All things are lawful for me," but not all things are profitable. "All things are lawful for me," but not all things build up.
24 Ref Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor's good.
25 Ref Whatever is sold in the butcher shop, eat, asking no question for the sake of conscience,
26 Ref for "the earth is the Lord's, and its fullness."
27 Ref But if one of those who don't believe invites you to a meal, and you are inclined to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for the sake of conscience.
28 Ref But if anyone says to you, "This was offered to idols," don't eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For "the earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness."
29 Ref Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other's conscience. For why is my liberty judged by another conscience?
30 Ref If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for that for which I give thanks?
31 Ref Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
32 Ref Give no occasions for stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the assembly of God;
33 Ref even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.
