Lamentations 5
American Standard-ASV1901 (ASV)
1 Ref Remember, O Jehovah, what is come upon us: Behold, and see our reproach.
2 Ref Our inheritance is turned unto strangers, Our houses unto aliens.
3 Ref We are orphans and fatherless; Our mothers are as widows.
4 Ref We have drunken our water for money; Our wood is sold unto us.
5 Ref Our pursuers are upon our necks: We are weary, and have no rest.
6 Ref We have given the hand to the Egyptians, And to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.
7 Ref Our fathers sinned, and are not; And we have borne their iniquities.
8 Ref Servants rule over us: There is none to deliver us out of their hand.
9 Ref We get our bread at the peril of our lives, Because of the sword of the wilderness.
10 Ref Our skin is black like an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine.
11 Ref They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.
12 Ref Princes were hanged up by their hand: The faces of elders were not honored.
13 Ref The young men bare the mill; And the children stumbled under the wood.
14 Ref The elders have ceased from the gate, The young men from their music.
15 Ref The joy of our heart is ceased; Our dance is turned into mourning.
16 Ref The crown is fallen from our head: Woe unto us! for we have sinned.
17 Ref For this our heart is faint; For these things our eyes are dim;
18 Ref For the mountain of Zion, which is desolate: The foxes walk upon it.
19 Ref Thou, O Jehovah, abidest for ever; Thy throne is from generation to generation.
20 Ref Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, `And' forsake us so long time?
21 Ref Turn thou us unto thee, O Jehovah, and we shall be turned; Renew our days as of old.
22 Ref But thou hast utterly rejected us; Thou art very wroth against us.
Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
1 Ref Remember, O Jehovah, what hath befallen us, Look attentively, and see our reproach.
2 Ref Our inheritance hath been turned to strangers, Our houses to foreigners.
3 Ref Orphans we have been -- without a father, our mothers `are' as widows.
4 Ref Our water for money we have drunk, Our wood for a price doth come.
5 Ref For our neck we have been pursued, We have laboured -- there hath been no rest for us.
6 Ref `To' Egypt we have given a hand, `To' Asshur, to be satisfied with bread.
7 Ref Our fathers have sinned -- they are not, We their iniquities have borne.
8 Ref Servants have ruled over us, A deliverer there is none from their hand.
9 Ref With our lives we bring in our bread, Because of the sword of the wilderness.
10 Ref Our skin as an oven hath been burning, Because of the raging of the famine.
11 Ref Wives in Zion they have humbled, Virgins -- in cities of Judah.
12 Ref Princes by their hand have been hanged, The faces of elders have not been honoured.
13 Ref Young men to grind they have taken, And youths with wood have stumbled.
14 Ref The aged from the gate have ceased, Young men from their song.
15 Ref Ceased hath the joy of our heart, Turned to mourning hath been our dancing.
16 Ref Fallen hath the crown `from' our head, Wo `is' now to us, for we have sinned.
17 Ref For this hath our heart been sick, For these have our eyes been dim.
18 Ref For the mount of Zion -- that is desolate, Foxes have gone up on it.
19 Ref Thou, O Jehovah, to the age remainest, Thy throne to generation and generation.
20 Ref Why for ever dost Thou forget us? Thou forsakest us for length of days!
21 Ref Turn us back, O Jehovah, unto Thee, And we turn back, renew our days as of old.
22 Ref For hast Thou utterly rejected us? Thou hast been wroth against us -- exceedingly?
