1 Ref O God thou hast cast us off, thou hast broken us down; Thou hast been angry; oh restore us again.

2 Ref Thou hast made the land to tremble; thou hast rent it: Heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.

3 Ref Thou hast showed thy people hard things: Thou hast made us to drink the wine of staggering.

4 Ref Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah

5 Ref That thy beloved may be delivered, Save with thy right hand, and answer us.

6 Ref God hath spoken in his holiness: I will exult; I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.

7 Ref Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the defence of my head; Judah is my sceptre.

8 Ref Moab is my washpot; Upon Edom will I cast my shoe: Philistia, shout thou because of me.

9 Ref Who will bring me into the strong city? Who hath led me unto Edom?

10 Ref Hast not thou, O God, cast us off? And thou goest not forth, O God, with our hosts.

11 Ref Give us help against the adversary; For vain is the help of man.

12 Ref Through God we shall do valiantly; For he it is that will tread down our adversaries. Psalm 61 For the Chief Musician; on a stringed instrument. `A Psalm' of David.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ref To the Overseer. -- `Concerning the Lily of Testimony,' a secret treasure of David, to teach, in his striving with Aram-Naharaim, and with Aram-Zobah, and Joab turneth back and smiteth Edom in the valley of Salt -- twelve thousand. O God, Thou hadst cast us off, Thou hadst broken us -- hadst been angry! -- Thou dost turn back to us.

2 Ref Thou hast caused the land to tremble, Thou hast broken it, Heal its breaches, for it hath moved.

3 Ref Thou hast shewn Thy people a hard thing, Thou hast caused us to drink wine of trembling.

4 Ref Thou hast given to those fearing thee an ensign. To be lifted up as an ensign Because of truth. Selah.

5 Ref That Thy beloved ones may be drawn out, Save `with' Thy right hand, and answer us.

6 Ref God hath spoken in His holiness: I exult -- I apportion Shechem, And the valley of Succoth I measure,

7 Ref Mine `is' Gilead, and mine `is' Manasseh, And Ephraim `is' the strength of my head, Judah `is' my lawgiver,

8 Ref Moab `is' my pot for washing, over Edom I cast my shoe, Shout, concerning me, O Philistia.

9 Ref Who doth bring me `to' a city of bulwarks? Who hath led me unto Edom?

10 Ref Is it not Thou, O God? hast Thou cast us off? And dost Thou not go forth, O God, with our hosts!

11 Ref Give to us help from adversity, And vain `is' the deliverance of man.

12 Ref In God we do mightily, And He treadeth down our adversaries!

2 Ref You have made the land tremble. You have torn it. Mend its fractures, For it quakes.

3 Ref You have shown your people hard things. You have made us drink the wine that makes us stagger.

6 Ref God has spoken from his sanctuary: "I will triumph. I will divide Shechem, And measure out the valley of Succoth.

7 Ref Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine. Ephraim also is the defense of my head. Judah is my scepter.

8 Ref Moab is my wash basin. I will throw my shoe on Edom. I shout in triumph over Philistia."

9 Ref Who will bring me into the strong city? Who has led me to Edom?

10 Ref Haven't you, God, rejected us? You don't go out with our armies, God.

11 Ref Give us help against the adversary, For the help of man is vain.

12 Ref Through God we shall do valiantly, For it is he who will tread down our adversaries.
