³² But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

⁵ and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art reproved of him;

⁶ For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

⁷ It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom `his' father chasteneth not?

⁸ But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

⁹ Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

¹⁰ For they indeed for a few days chastened `us' as seemed good to them; but he for `our' profit, that `we' may be partakers of his holiness.

¹¹ All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, `even the fruit' of righteousness.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

¹⁸ Jehovah hath chastened me sore; But he hath not given me over unto death.

³⁰ For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep.

¹¹ My son, despise not the chastening of Jehovah; Neither be weary of his reproof:

¹² For whom Jehovah loveth he reproveth; Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

¹² Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Jehovah, And teachest out of thy law;

¹³ That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, Until the pit be digged for the wicked.

¹⁷ Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.

¹⁸ For he maketh sore, and bindeth up; He woundeth, and his hands make whole.

⁵ And thou shalt consider in thy heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so Jehovah thy God chasteneth thee.

¹⁹ We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in the evil one.

¹⁹ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it speaketh to them that are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God:

² She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in Jehovah; she drew not near to her God.

²⁸ And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation that hath not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received instruction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

⁵ Why will ye be still stricken, that ye revolt more and more? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

³¹ For hath any said unto God, I have borne `chastisement', I will not offend `any more':

³² That which I see not teach thou me: If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?

¹⁸ He keepeth back his soul from the pit, And his life from perishing by the sword.

¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, And with continual strife in his bones;

²⁰ So that his life abhorreth bread, And his soul dainty food.

²¹ His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; And his bones that were not seen stick out.

²² Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit, And his life to the destroyers.

²³ If there be with him an angel, An interpreter, one among a thousand, To show unto man what is right for him;

²⁴ Then `God' is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.

²⁵ His flesh shall be fresher than a child's; He returneth to the days of his youth.

²⁶ He prayeth unto God, and he is favorable unto him, So that he seeth his face with joy: And he restoreth unto man his righteousness.

²⁷ He singeth before men, and saith, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, And it profited me not:

²⁸ He hath redeemed my soul from going into the pit, And my life shall behold the light.

²⁹ Lo, all these things doth God work, Twice, `yea' thrice, with a man,

³⁰ To bring back his soul from the pit, That he may be enlightened with the light of the living.
