⁸ And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king's sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning.

²³ his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt surely bury him the same day; for he that is hanged is accursed of God; that thou defile not thy land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

¹⁸ Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

¹⁹ and he charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling all the things concerning the war unto the king,

²⁰ it shall be that, if the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore went ye so nigh unto the city to fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?

²¹ who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast an upper millstone upon him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? why went ye so nigh the wall? then shalt thou say, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

²⁸ and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the damsel; and the damsel gave it to her mother.
