¹⁸ If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, that will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chasten him, will not hearken unto them;

¹² Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.

³ Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father; and ye shall keep my sabbaths: I am Jehovah your God.

¹¹ There is a generation that curse their father, And bless not their mother.

¹⁷ The eye that mocketh at his father, And despiseth to obey his mother, The ravens of the valley shall pick it out, And the young eagles shall eat it.

² Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for Jehovah hath spoken: I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.

⁵ Why will ye be still stricken, that ye revolt more and more? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

³ O Jehovah, do not thine eyes look upon truth? thou hast stricken them, but they were not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself `thus', Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf unaccustomed `to the yoke': turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art Jehovah my God.

⁷ In thee have they set light by father and mother; in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the sojourner; in thee have they wronged the fatherless and the widow.

¹³ In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed thee and thou wast not cleansed, thou shalt not be cleansed from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward thee to rest.

¹¹ I have overthrown `cities' among you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a brand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah.

¹² Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel; `and' because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

¹ Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

² Honor thy father and mother (which is the first commandment with promise),

³ that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

⁹ Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

¹⁰ For they indeed for a few days chastened `us' as seemed good to them; but he for `our' profit, that `we' may be partakers of his holiness.

¹¹ All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, `even the fruit' of righteousness.

¹⁷ Correct thy son, and he will give thee rest; Yea, he will give delight unto thy soul.

²⁴ Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression, The same is the companion of a destroyer.

¹⁷ And he that curseth his father or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

⁹ And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the harlot, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.

⁵ And thou shalt consider in thy heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so Jehovah thy God chasteneth thee.

¹⁶ Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;

⁸ My son, hear the instruction of thy father, And forsake not the law of thy mother:

²⁴ He that spareth his rod hateth his son; But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

⁵ A fool despiseth his father's correction; But he that regardeth reproof getteth prudence.

¹⁸ Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope; nd set not thy heart on his destruction.

²⁰ Whoso curseth his father or his mother, His lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.

¹⁵ Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; `But' the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

¹³ Withhold not correction from the child; `For' if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.

¹⁴ Thou shalt beat him with the rod, And shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.

¹⁵ And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.
