¹³ thou shalt surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his garment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before Jehovah thy God.

²⁷ Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

²⁵ And it shall be righteousness unto us, if we observe to do all this commandment before Jehovah our God, as he hath commanded us.

⁹ He hath dispersed, he hath given to the needy; His righteousness endureth for ever: His horn shall be exalted with honor.

¹⁵ in his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto Jehovah, and it be sin unto thee.

²⁶ If thou at all take thy neighbor's garment to pledge, thou shalt restore it unto him before the sun goeth down:

²⁷ for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? And it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

¹³ seeing that through the proving `of you' by this ministration they glorify God for the obedience of your confession unto the gospel of Christ, and for the liberality of `your' contribution unto them and unto all;

¹⁴ while they themselves also, with supplication on your behalf, long after you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you.

²⁶ Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

¹⁶ The Lord grant mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus: for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain;

¹⁷ but, when he was in Rome, he sought me diligently, and found me

¹⁸ (the Lord grant unto him to find mercy of the Lord in that day); and in how many things he ministered at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

²⁷ Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, `and' to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

¹³ For judgment `is' without mercy to him that hath showed no mercy: mercy glorieth against judgment.

¹⁴ What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him?

¹⁵ If a brother or sister be naked and in lack of daily food,

¹⁶ and one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body; what doth it profit?

¹⁷ Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself.

¹⁸ Yea, a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith apart from `thy' works, and I by my works will show thee `my' faith.

¹⁹ Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well: the demons also believe, and shudder.

²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is barren?

²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar?

²² Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect;

²³ and the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God.

⁸ and they lay themselves down beside every altar upon clothes taken in pledge; and in the house of their God they drink the wine of such as have been fined.

¹⁵ if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that which he had taken by robbery, walk in the statutes of life, committing no iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.

⁹ Beware that there be not a base thought in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou give him nought; and he cry unto Jehovah against thee, and it be sin unto thee.

¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give him, and thy heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him; because that for this thing Jehovah thy God will bless thee in all thy work, and in all that thou puttest thy hand unto.

⁷ They lie all night naked without clothing, And have no covering in the cold.

⁸ They are wet with the showers of the mountains, And embrace the rock for want of a shelter.

¹¹ For when the ear heard `me', then it blessed me; And when the eye saw `me', it gave witness unto me:

¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, The fatherless also, that had none to help him.

¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me; And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from `their' desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel alone, And the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

¹⁸ (Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And her have I guided from my mother's womb);

¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, Or that the needy had no covering;

²⁰ If his loins have not blessed me, And if he hath not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

³⁰ Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment; And so the plague was stayed.

³¹ And that was reckoned unto him for righteousness, Unto all generations for evermore.

⁸ Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thy healing shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of Jehovah shall by thy rearward.

⁷ and hath not wronged any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath taken nought by robbery, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;

¹² hath wronged the poor and needy, hath taken by robbery, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,

¹⁶ neither hath wronged any, hath not taken aught to pledge, neither hath taken by robbery, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;

⁶ And he believed in Jehovah; and he reckoned it to him for righteousness.
