¹⁸ Son of man, the house of Israel is become dross unto me: all of them are brass and tin and iron and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are the dross of silver.

²² Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water.

¹¹⁹ Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: Therefore I love thy testimonies.

²⁸ They are all grievous revolters, going about with slanders; they are brass and iron: they all of them deal corruptly.

²⁹ The bellows blow fiercely; the lead is consumed of the fire: in vain do they go on refining; for the wicked are not plucked away.

³⁰ Refuse silver shall men them, because Jehovah hath rejected them.

¹⁰ Behold, I have refined thee, but not as silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

³ The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; But Jehovah trieth the hearts.

²⁰ As they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt it; so will I gather you in mine anger and in my wrath, and I will lay you there, and melt you.

¹ How is the gold become dim! `how' is the most pure gold changed! The stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street.

² The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, How are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

⁴ Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass;

⁹ And his rock shall pass away by reason of terror, and his princes shall be dismayed at the ensign, saith Jehovah, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.

²⁵ and I will turn my hand upon thee, and thoroughly purge away thy dross, and will take away all thy tin;
