¹ And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's hath he gotten all this glory.

⁴ Then I saw all labor and every skilful work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

⁴ Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; But who is able to stand before jealousy?

¹⁴ Therefore Sheol hath enlarged its desire, and opened its mouth without measure; and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth among them, descend `into it'.

¹⁶ Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased.

¹⁷ For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him.

⁴ My soul is among lions; I lie among them that are set on fire, Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword.

³ Who have whet their tongue like a sword, And have aimed their arrows, even bitter words,

⁴ That they may shoot in secret places at the perfect: Suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

⁸ If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the flock bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ringstreaked shall be thy wages; then bare all the flock ringstreaked.

⁹ Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.
