¹⁰ Where now is thy king, that he may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges, of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?

⁴ They have set up kings, but not by me; they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

⁵ and they said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

⁶ But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto Jehovah.

³ Surely now shall they say, We have no king; for we fear not Jehovah; and the king, what can he do for us?

²² For Jehovah is our judge, Jehovah is our lawgiver, Jehovah is our king; he will save us.

¹⁵ I am Jehovah, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.

²⁸ But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

¹⁹ Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a land that is very far off: is not Jehovah in Zion? is not her King in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with foreign vanities?

⁴ Yet I am Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt; and thou shalt know no god but me, and besides me there is no saviour.

⁹ And Jehovah shall be King over all the earth: in that day shall Jehovah be one, and his name one.

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art King of Israel.

² Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

¹⁸ For our shield belongeth unto Jehovah; And our king to the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁶ And Jehovah raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those that despoiled them.

¹⁷ And yet they hearkened not unto their judges; for they played the harlot after other gods, and bowed themselves down unto them: they turned aside quickly out of the way wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of Jehovah; `but' they did not so.

¹⁸ And when Jehovah raised them up judges, then Jehovah was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented Jehovah because of their groaning by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

¹⁹ But the people refused to hearken unto the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay: but we will have a king over us,

²⁰ that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

¹¹ And Jehovah sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and ye dwelt in safety.

¹² And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when Jehovah your God was your king.

²⁰ And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was returned, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

⁴ And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.

¹⁶ Jehovah is King for ever and ever: The nations are perished out of his land.

⁴ Thou art my King, O God: Command deliverance for Jacob.

⁶ Sing praise to God, sing praises: Sing praises unto our King, sing praises.

⁷ For God is the King of all the earth: Sing ye praises with understanding.

¹² Yet God is my King of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth.

³⁷ And he will say, Where are their gods, The rock in which they took refuge;

³⁸ Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, `And' drank the wine of their drink-offering? Let them rise up and help you, Let them be your protection.

³⁹ See now that I, even I, am he, And there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; And there is none that can deliver out of my hand.
