¹⁹ Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul loathed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and, behold, dismay!

⁸ My heritage is become unto me as a lion in the forest: she hath uttered her voice against me; therefore I have hated her.

¹⁸ Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou indeed be unto me as a deceitful `brook', as waters that fail?

¹³ There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.

³ When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.

²⁶ When I looked for good, then evil came; And when I waited for light, there came darkness.

¹⁹ Also Judah kept not the commandments of Jehovah their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

²⁰ And Jehovah rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

¹² Why hast thou broken down its walls, So that all they that pass by the way do pluck it?

¹³ The boar out of the wood doth ravage it, And the wild beasts of the field feed on it.

²⁹ Cut off thy hair, `O Jerusalem', and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for Jehovah hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

²² Is there no balm in Gilead? is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

¹ Then said Jehovah unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.

¹³ What shall I testify unto thee? what shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? What shall I compare to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? For thy breach is great like the sea: who can heal thee?

¹⁷ Our eyes do yet fail `in looking' for our vain help: In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.

⁸ And I cut off the three shepherds in one month; for my soul was weary of them, and their soul also loathed me.

⁹ Then said I, I will not feed you: that which dieth, let it die; and that which is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let them that are left eat every one the flesh of another.

¹ I say then, Did God cast off his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

² God did not cast off his people which he foreknew. Or know ye not what the scripture saith of Elijah? how he pleadeth with God against Israel:

³ Lord, they have killed thy prophets, they have digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.

⁴ But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have left for myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to Baal.

⁵ Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

⁶ But if it is by grace, it is no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace.

¹⁶ but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of Jehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
