² How long will ye vex my soul, And break me in pieces with words?

¹⁶ And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, that his soul was vexed unto death.

⁷ and delivered righteous Lot, sore distressed by the lascivious life of the wicked

⁸ (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed `his' righteous soul from day to day with `their' lawless deeds):

⁶ And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell.

⁷ For every kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind.

⁸ But the tongue can no man tame; `it is' a restless evil, `it is' full of deadly poison.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

¹⁸ There is that speaketh rashly like the piercings of a sword; But the tongue of the wise is health.

³ Who have whet their tongue like a sword, And have aimed their arrows, even bitter words,

⁷ Behold, they belch out with their mouth; Swords are in their lips: For who, `say they', doth hear?

²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter, But his heart was war: His words were softer than oil, Yet were they drawn swords.

¹⁰ As with a sword in my bones, mine adversaries reproach me, While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

¹ How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou forget me for ever? How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

² Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah; for I am withered away: O Jehovah, heal me; for my bones are troubled.

³ My soul also is sore troubled: And thou, O Jehovah, how long?

² As God liveth, who hath taken away my right, And the Almighty, who hath vexed my soul:

² How long will ye hunt for words? Consider, and afterwards we will speak.

² How long wilt thou speak these things? And `how long' shall the words of thy mouth be `like' a mighty wind?

¹⁰ and they cried with a great voice, saying, How long, O Master, the holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
