⁸ `They are' children of fools, yea, children of base men; They were scourged out of the land.

¹⁸ And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife; and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah.

¹⁸ The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

⁶ For the fool will speak folly, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise profaneness, and to utter error against Jehovah, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and to cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

²² Understanding is a well-spring of life unto him that hath it; But the correction of fools is `their' folly.

²² How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? And scoffers delight them in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge?

⁷ The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; `But' the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

¹⁰ For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others.

¹¹ Their inward thought is, `that' their houses `shall continue' for ever, `And' their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names.

¹² But man `being' in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.

¹³ This their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah

⁴ In whose eyes a reprobate is despised, But who honoreth them that fear Jehovah; He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not;

⁴ Behold, I am of small account; What shall I answer thee? I lay my hand upon my mouth.

³ He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab; for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

²⁷ And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, as did the house of Ahab; for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab.

²⁴ And she went out, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptizer.
