⁷ I said, Days should speak, And multitude of years should teach wisdom.

¹² With aged men is wisdom, And in length of days understanding.

³¹ The hoary head is a crown of glory; It shall be found in the way of righteousness.

⁶ And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?

⁷ And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

⁸ But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with him, that stood before him.

⁸ For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, And apply thyself to that which their fathers have searched out:

⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, Because our days upon earth are a shadow);

¹⁰ Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, And utter words out of their heart?

¹¹ Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of Jehovah.

¹² What man is he that desireth life, And loveth `many' days, that he may see good?

¹ The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

² To know wisdom and instruction; To discern the words of understanding;

³ To receive instruction in wise dealing, In righteousness and justice and equity;

⁴ To give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion:

¹² For when by reason of the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need again that some one teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food.
