⁹ By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

²³ And it came to pass in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

²⁸ So that they caused the cry of the poor to come unto him, And he heard the cry of the afflicted.

³ and there was a widow in that city; and she came oft unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

⁴ And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

⁵ yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest she wear me out by her continual coming.

⁶ And the Lord said, Hear what the unrighteous judge saith.

⁷ And shall not God avenge his elect, that cry to him day and night, and `yet' he is longsuffering over them?

¹ Be merciful unto me, O God; for man would swallow me up: All the day long he fighting oppresseth me.

² Mine enemies would swallow me up all the day long; For they are many that fight proudly against me.

² Attend unto me, and answer me: I am restless in my complaint, and moan,

³ Because of the voice of the enemy, Because of the oppression of the wicked; For they cast iniquity upon me, And in anger they persecute me.

² For thou art the God of my strength; why hast thou cast me off? Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

⁵ Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy, Now will I arise, saith Jehovah; I will set him in the safety he panteth for.

¹⁵ Break thou the arm of the wicked; And as for the evil man, seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

⁹ Or hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

¹² From out of the populous city men groan, And the soul of the wounded crieth out: Yet God regardeth not the folly.

¹⁹ He leadeth priests away stripped, And overthroweth the mighty.

¹ Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.

² For there were that said, We, our sons and our daughters, are many: let us get grain, that we may eat and live.

³ Some also there were that said, We are mortgaging our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses: let us get grain, because of the dearth.

⁴ There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute `upon' our fields and our vineyards.

⁵ Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought into bondage `already': neither is it in our power to help it; for other men have our fields and our vineyards.

⁹ And now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: moreover I have seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.

⁷ And Jehovah said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
