¹⁷ Have the gates of death been revealed unto thee? Or hast thou seen the gates of the shadow of death?

¹³ Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah; Behold my affliction `which I suffer' of them that hate me, Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death;

¹⁸ Their soul abhorreth all manner of food; And they draw near unto the gates of death.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own; Let a cloud dwell upon it; Let all that maketh black the day terrify it.

¹⁶ The people that sat in darkness Saw a great light, And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death, To them did light spring up.

⁸ `seek him' that maketh the Pleiades and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night; that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth (Jehovah is his name);

³ The cords of death compassed me, And the pains of Sheol gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.

¹⁴ He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, And brake their bonds in sunder.

¹⁰ Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, Being bound in affliction and iron,

⁴ Yea, thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

²² He uncovereth deep things out of darkness, And bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
