²² And when he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

¹⁰ They have gaped upon me with their mouth; They have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully: They gather themselves together against me.

³ and they came unto him, and said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they struck him with their hands.

³ Judas then, having received the band `of soldiers', and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

⁶³ And the men that held `Jesus' mocked him, and beat him.

⁶⁴ And they blindfolded him, and asked him, saying, Prophesy: who is he that struck thee?

⁶⁵ And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the officers received him with blows of their hands.

⁶⁷ Then did they spit in his face and buffet him: and some smote him with the palms of their hands,

⁶⁸ saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ: who is he that struck thee?

¹ Now shalt thou gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us; they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

² Then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Jehovah.

⁵ The Lord Jehovah hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away backward.

⁶ I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair; I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

⁷ For the Lord Jehovah will help me; therefore have I not been confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame.

¹⁰ They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, And spare not to spit in my face.

¹¹ For he hath loosed his cord, and afflicted me; And they have cast off the bridle before me.

¹² Upon my right hand rise the rabble; They thrust aside my feet, And they cast up against me their ways of destruction.

² And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

³ Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: and sittest thou to judge me according to the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

⁴ And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest?

⁵ And Paul said, I knew not, brethren, that he was high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of a ruler of thy people.
