⁴⁸ For he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaid: For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

⁶ For though Jehovah is high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly; But the haughty he knoweth from afar.

²⁷ And it came to pass, as he said these things, a certain woman out of the multitude lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the breasts which thou didst suck.

²⁸ And he came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord `is' with thee.

¹² And all nations shall call you happy; for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith Jehovah of hosts.

¹¹ And she vowed a vow, and said, O Jehovah of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thy handmaid, but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man-child, then I will give him unto Jehovah all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren; did not God choose them that are poor as to the world `to be' rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?

⁶ But ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats?

²⁶ For behold your calling, brethren, that not many wise after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, `are called':

²⁷ but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put to shame them that are wise; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong;

²⁸ and the base things of the world, and the things that are despised, did God choose, `yea' and the things that are not, that he might bring to nought the things that are:

⁴² and she lifted up her voice with a loud cry, and said, Blessed `art' thou among women, and blessed `is' the fruit of thy womb.

² For all these things hath my hand made, and `so' all these things came to be, saith Jehovah: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my word.

²³ Who remembered us in our low estate; For his lovingkindness `endureth' for ever;

⁷ He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, And lifteth up the needy from the dunghill;

⁸ That he may set him with princes, Even with the princes of his people.

¹⁸ Then David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, Who am I, O Lord Jehovah, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?

¹⁹ And this was yet a small thing in thine eyes, O Lord Jehovah; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come; and this `too' after the manner of men, O Lord Jehovah!

⁸ Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people, over Israel;

⁸ He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, He lifteth up the needy from the dunghill, To make them sit with princes, And inherit the throne of glory: For the pillars of the earth are Jehovah's, And he hath set the world upon them.

¹³ And Leah said, Happy am I! for the daughters will call me happy: and she called his name Asher.

¹⁷ He hath regarded the prayer of the destitute, And hath not despised their prayer.
