⁷ And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were `now' well stricken in years.

¹¹ By faith even Sarah herself received power to conceive seed when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised:

¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old, `and' well stricken in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

² and he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

²¹ And Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren. And Jehovah was entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

² And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.

³ And the angel of Jehovah appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not; but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

¹⁷ Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

¹ Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bare him no children: and she had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

² And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, Jehovah hath restrained me from bearing; go in, I pray thee, unto my handmaid; it may be that I shall obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

¹⁹ And without being weakened in faith he considered his own body now as good as dead (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb;

¹⁴ And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no son, and her husband is old.

¹ Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.

⁵ but unto Hannah he gave a double portion; for he loved Hannah, but Jehovah had shut up her womb.

⁶ And her rival provoked her sore, to make her fret, because Jehovah had shut up her womb.

⁷ And `as' he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of Jehovah, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

⁸ And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

¹ And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and she said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.

² And Abram said, O Lord Jehovah, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and he that shall be possessor of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?

³ And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
