³ And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.

⁵ For this cause I also, when I could no longer forbear, sent that I might know your faith, lest by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor should be in vain.

³¹ Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat:

³² but I made supplication for thee, that thy faith fail not; and do thou, when once thou hast turned again, establish thy brethren.

¹⁷ Yet went they on still to sin against him, To rebel against the Most High in the desert.

¹⁸ And they tempted God in their heart By asking food according to their desire.

¹⁹ Yea, they spake against God; They said, Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

²⁰ Behold, he smote the rock, so that waters gushed out, And streams overflowed; Can he give bread also? Will he provide flesh for his people?

⁴ And Satan answered Jehovah, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

⁵ But put forth thy hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will renounce thee to thy face.

⁶ And Jehovah said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thy hand; only spare his life.

⁷ So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

⁹ Then Satan answered Jehovah, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

¹⁰ Hast not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath, on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

¹¹ But put forth thy hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will renounce thee to thy face.

¹² And Jehovah said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah.

⁴ And the mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

⁵ We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt for nought; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic:

⁶ but now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all save this manna to look upon.

¹ Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of any tree of the garden?

² And the woman said unto the serpent, Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat:

³ but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

⁴ And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

⁵ for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world; he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him.

¹⁰ And I heard a great voice in heaven, saying, Now is come the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, who accuseth them before our God day and night.

¹¹ And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their testimony; and they loved not their life even unto death.

¹⁰ Fear not the things which thou art about to suffer: behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.

²⁰ And straightway in the synagogues he proclaimed Jesus, that he is the Son of God.

⁹ And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

³ And the devil said unto him, if thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become bread.

³³ And they that were in the boat worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

¹⁷ and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

³ and the children of Israel said unto them, Would that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh-pots, when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

²⁹ And Jacob boiled pottage. And Esau came in from the field, and he was faint.

³⁰ And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red `pottage'. For I am faint. Therefore was his name called Edom.

³¹ And Jacob said, Sell me first thy birthright.

³² And Esau said, Behold, I am about to die. And what profit shall the birthright do to me?

³³ And Jacob said, Swear to me first. And he sware unto him. And he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

³⁴ And Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils. And he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.

¹⁶ lest `there be' any fornication, or profane person, as Esau, who for one mess of meat sold his own birthright.
