²⁰ The poor is hated even of his own neighbor; But the rich hath many friends.

⁴ Wealth addeth many friends; But the poor is separated from his friend.

² And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, bowed down, and did reverence to Haman; for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not down, nor did him reverence.

¹⁰ Nevertheless Haman refrained himself, and went home; and he sent and fetched his friends and Zeresh his wife.

¹¹ And Haman recounted unto them the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

²¹ For now ye are nothing; Ye see a terror, and are afraid.

²² Did I say, Give unto me? Or, Offer a present for me of your substance?

²³ Or, Deliver me from the adversary's hand? Or, Redeem me from the hand of the oppressors?

¹³ He hath put my brethren far from me, And mine acquaintance are wholly estranged from me.

¹⁴ My kinsfolk have failed, And my familiar friends have forgotten me.

¹⁰ They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, And spare not to spit in my face.

¹⁵ The rich man's wealth is his strong city: The destruction of the poor is their poverty.

⁶ Many will entreat the favor of the liberal man; And every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.

⁷ All the brethren of the poor do hate him: How much more do his friends go far from him! He pursueth `them with' words, `but' they are gone.
