¹⁰ Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, Being bound in affliction and iron,

⁷⁹ To shine upon them that sit in darkness and the shadow of death; To guide our feet into the way of peace.

¹⁶ The people that sat in darkness Saw a great light, And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death, To them did light spring up.

²⁰ For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free in regard of righteousness.

²¹ What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

⁷ to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.

² The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

¹⁸ His feet they hurt with fetters: He was laid in `chains of' iron,

⁸ And if they be bound in fetters, And be taken in the cords of afflictions;

⁹ Then he showeth them their work, And their transgressions, that they have behaved themselves proudly.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own; Let a cloud dwell upon it; Let all that maketh black the day terrify it.

¹¹ Wherefore Jehovah brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

²³ And it came to pass in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

²⁴ And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
