²⁷ They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits' end.

²⁵ They grope in the dark without light; And he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.

³ And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst of it; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek unto the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.

¹⁴ Jehovah hath mingled a spirit of perverseness in the midst of her; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit.

⁹ Tarry ye and wonder; take your pleasure and be blind: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

²⁰ Shall it be told him that I would speak? Or should a man wish that he were swallowed up?

²⁰ The earth shall stagger like a drunken man, and shall sway to and fro like a hammock; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it, and it shall fall, and not rise again.

¹⁵ and when the ship was caught, and could not face the wind, we gave way `to it,' and were driven.

¹⁶ And running under the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat:

¹⁷ and when they had hoisted it up, they used helps, under-girding the ship; and, fearing lest they should be cast upon the Syrtis, they lowered the gear, and so were driven.

¹⁸ And as we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw the `the freight' overboard;

¹⁹ and the third day they cast out with their own hands the tackling of the ship.

²⁰ And when neither sun nor stars shone upon `us' for many days, and no small tempest lay on `us,' all hope that we should be saved was now taken away.
