²⁰ Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why didst thou make me thus?

¹⁶ Ye turn things upside down! Shall the potter be esteemed as clay; that the thing made should say of him that made it, He made me not; or the thing formed say of him that formed it, He hath no understanding?

⁹ Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! a potsherd among the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

¹⁰ Woe unto him that saith unto a father, What begettest thou? or to a woman, With what travailest thou?

¹¹ Thus saith Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: Ask me of the things that are to come; concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands, command ye me.

⁸ But now, O Jehovah, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

¹³ Why dost thou strive against him, For that he giveth not account of any of his matters?

³ Shall vain words have an end? Or what provoketh thee that thou answerest?

⁵ wranglings of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain.

² I know that thou canst do all things, And that no purpose of thine can be restrained.

³ Who is this that hideth counsel without knowledge? Therefore have I uttered that which I understood not, Things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

⁴ Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak; I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

⁵ I had heard of thee by the hearing of the ear; But now mine eye seeth thee:

⁶ Wherefore I abhor `myself', And repent in dust and ashes.

² Shall he that cavilleth contend with the Almighty? He that argueth with God, let him answer it.

² Who is this that darkeneth counsel By words without knowledge?

³ Gird up now thy loins like a man; For I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

²³ Who hath enjoined him his way? Or who can say, Thou hast wrought unrighteousness?

⁸ Wilt thou even annul my judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be justified?

⁵ Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; Yea, twice, but I will proceed no further.

⁹ `Exhort' servants to be in subjection to their own masters, `and' to be well-pleasing `to them' in all things; not gainsaying;

¹⁶ For how knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? Or how knowest thou, O husband, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

¹ Wherefore thou art without excuse, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judges another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest dost practise the same things.

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? or is thine eye evil, because I am good?

⁸ He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth Jehovah require of thee, but to do justly, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with thy God?

²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is barren?
