⁶ Look not upon me, because I am swarthy, Because the sun hath scorched me. My mother's sons were incensed against me; They made me keeper of the vineyards; `But' mine own vineyard have I not kept.

⁸ I am become a stranger unto my brethren, And an alien unto my mother's children.

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; He let out the vineyard unto keepers; Every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand `pieces' of silver.

¹² My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: Thou, O Solomon, shalt have the thousand, And those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

²⁹ But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him `that was born' after the Spirit, so also it is now.

²² confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.

⁵¹ Think ye that I am come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

⁵² for there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

⁵³ They shall be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother in law against her daughter in law, and daughter in law against her mother in law.

⁶ and when the sun was risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

³⁵ For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law:

³⁶ and a man's foes `shall be' they of his own household.

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more them of his household!

²² And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.

⁶ For the son dishonoreth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

⁸ Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: Their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

⁶ For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; even they have cried aloud after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.

²¹ For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt: I mourn; dismay hath taken hold on me.

³⁰ My skin is black, `and falleth' from me, And my bones are burned with heat.

¹⁹ So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and `the women' said, Is this Naomi?

²⁰ And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara; for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.

²¹ I went out full, and Jehovah hath brought me home again empty; why call ye me Naomi, seeing Jehovah hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?
