Mark 10
Bible in Basic English (BBE)
1 Ref And he got up, and went into the country of Judaea on the other side of Jordan: and great numbers of people came together to him again; and, as was his way, he gave them teaching.
2 Ref And Pharisees came to him, testing him with the question, Is it right for a man to put away his wife?
3 Ref And he said to them in answer, What did Moses say you were to do?
4 Ref And they said to him, Moses let us give her a statement in writing, and be free from her.
5 Ref But Jesus said to them, Because of your hard hearts he gave you this law.
6 Ref But from the first, male and female made he them.
7 Ref For this cause will a man go away from his father and mother, and be joined to his wife;
8 Ref And the two will become one flesh; so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.
9 Ref Let not that which has been joined together by God be parted by man.
10 Ref And in the house the disciples put questions to him again about this thing.
11 Ref And he said to them, Whoever puts away his wife and takes another, is false to his wife;
12 Ref And if she herself puts away her husband and takes another, she is false to her husband.
13 Ref And they took to him little children, so that he might put his hands on them: and the disciples said sharp words to them.
14 Ref And when Jesus saw it, he was angry, and said to them, Let the little children come to me, and do not keep them away; for of such is the kingdom of God.
15 Ref Truly I say to you, Whoever does not put himself under the kingdom of God like a little child, will not come into it at all.
16 Ref And he took them in his arms, and gave them a blessing, putting his hands on them.
17 Ref And while he was going out into the way, a man came running to him, and went down on his knees, saying, Good Master, what have I to do so that I may have eternal life?
18 Ref And Jesus said to him, Why do you say I am good? no one is good but one, and that is God.
19 Ref You have knowledge of what is said in the law, Do not put any one to death, Do not be untrue in married life, Do not take what is not yours, Do not give false witness, Do not get money by deceit, Give honour to your father and mother.
20 Ref And he said to him, Master, all these laws I have kept from the time when I was young.
21 Ref And Jesus, looking on him and loving him, said, There is one thing needed: go, get money for your goods, and give it to the poor, and you will have wealth in heaven: and come with me.
22 Ref But his face became sad at the saying, and he went away sorrowing: for he was one who had much property.
23 Ref And Jesus, looking round about, said to his disciples, How hard it is for those who have wealth to come into the kingdom of God!
24 Ref And the disciples were full of wonder at his words. But Jesus said to them again, Children, how hard it is for those who put faith in wealth to come into the kingdom of God!
25 Ref It is simpler for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a man of wealth to come into the kingdom of God.
26 Ref And they were greatly surprised, saying to him, Who then may have salvation?
27 Ref Jesus, looking on them, said, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for all things are possible with God.
28 Ref Peter said to him, See, we have given up everything, and come after you.
29 Ref Jesus said, Truly I say to you, There is no man who has given up house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or land, because of me and the good news,
30 Ref Who will not get a hundred times as much now in this time, houses, and brothers, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and land--though with great troubles; and, in the world to come, eternal life.
31 Ref But a great number who are first will be last: and those who are last will be first.
32 Ref And they were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going before them: and they were full of wonder; but those who came after him were in fear. And again he took the twelve, and gave them word of the things which were to come on him,
33 Ref Saying, See, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be given up to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will give an order for his death, and will give him up to the Gentiles:
34 Ref And they will make sport of him, and put shame on him, and give him cruel blows, and will put him to death; and after three days he will come back from the dead.
35 Ref And there came to him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying to him, Master, will you give us whatever may be our request?
36 Ref And he said to them, What would you have me do for you?
37 Ref And they said to him, Let us be seated, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.
38 Ref But Jesus said to them, You have no knowledge of what you are saying. Are you able to take of my cup? or to undergo the baptism which I am to undergo?
39 Ref And they said to him, We are able. And Jesus said to them, You will take of the cup from which I take; and the baptism which I am about to undergo you will undergo:
40 Ref But to be seated at my right hand or at my left is not for me to give: but it is for those for whom it has been made ready.
41 Ref And hearing this, the ten became very angry with James and John.
42 Ref And Jesus made them come to him, and said to them, You see that those who are made rulers over the Gentiles are lords over them, and their great ones have authority over them.
43 Ref But it is not so among you: but whoever has a desire to become great among you, let him be your servant:
44 And whoever has a desire to be first among you, let him be servant of all.
45 Ref For truly the Son of man did not come to have servants, but to be a servant, and to give his life for the salvation of men.
46 Ref And they came to Jericho: and when he was going out of Jericho, with his disciples and a great number of people, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind man, was seated by the wayside, with his hand out for money.
47 Ref And when it came to his ears that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he gave a cry, and said, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.
48 Ref And some of them, turning in protest, gave him an order to be quiet: but he went on crying out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me.
49 Ref And Jesus came to a stop and said, Let him come. And crying out to the blind man, they said to him, Be comforted: come, he has sent for you.
50 Ref And he, putting off his coat, got up quickly, and came to Jesus.
51 Ref And Jesus said to him, What would you have me do to you? And the blind man said, Master, make me able to see.
52 Ref And Jesus said to him, Go on your way; your faith has made you well. And straight away he was able to see, and went after him in the way.

1 Ref He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them.
2 Ref Pharisees came to him testing him, and asked him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"
3 Ref He answered, "What did Moses command you?"
4 Ref They said, "Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her."
5 Ref But Jesus said to them, "For your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment.
6 Ref But from the beginning of the creation, 'God made them male and female.
7 Ref For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife,
8 Ref and the two will become one flesh,' so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.
9 Ref What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."
10 Ref In the house, his disciples asked him again about the same matter.
11 Ref He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her.
12 Ref If a woman herself divorces her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery."
13 Ref They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them.
14 Ref But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, "Allow the little children to come to me! Don't forbid them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
15 Ref Most assuredly I tell you, whoever will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter into it."
16 Ref He took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands on them.
17 Ref As he was going out into the way, one ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"
18 Ref Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except one-- God.
19 Ref You know the commandments: 'Do not murder,' 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not give false testimony,' 'Do not defraud,' 'Honor your father and mother.'"
20 Ref He said to him, "Teacher, I have observed all these things from my youth."
21 Ref Jesus looking at him loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross."
22 Ref But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions.
23 Ref Jesus looked around, and said to his disciples, "How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdom of God!"
24 Ref The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again, "Children, how hard is it for those who trust in riches to enter into the Kingdom of God!
25 Ref It is easier for a camel to go through a{or, the} needle's eye than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God."
26 Ref They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, "Then who can be saved?"
27 Ref Jesus, looking at them, said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God."
28 Ref Peter began to tell him, "Behold, we have left all, and have followed you."
29 Ref Jesus said, "Most assuredly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the Gospel's sake,
30 Ref but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life.
31 Ref But many who are first will be last; and the last first."
32 Ref They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him.
33 Ref "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles.
34 Ref They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and kill him. On the third day he will rise again."
35 Ref James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came near to him, saying, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask."
36 Ref He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?"
37 Ref They said to him, "Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right hand, and one at your left hand, in your glory."
38 Ref But Jesus said to them, "You don't know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?"
39 Ref They said to him, "We are able." Jesus said to them, "You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with;
40 Ref but to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared."
41 Ref When the ten heard it, they began to be indignant towards James and John.
42 Ref Jesus summoned them, and said to them, "You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
43 Ref But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant.
44 Whoever of you wants to become first among you, shall be bondservant of all.
45 Ref For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
46 Ref They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.
47 Ref When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, and say, "Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!"
48 Ref Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out much more, "You son of David, have mercy on me!"
49 Ref Jesus stood still, and said, "Call him." They called the blind man, saying to him, "Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you!"
50 Ref He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.
51 Ref Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "Rhabboni,{Rhabboni is a transliteration of the Hebrew word for "great teacher."} that I may see again."
52 Ref Jesus said to him, "Go your way. Your faith has made you well." Immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
