^{1 Ref} And it came about that after saying these words, Jesus went away from Galilee, and came into the parts of Judaea on the other side of Jordan.

^{2 Ref} And a great number went after him; and he made them well there.

^{3 Ref} And certain Pharisees came to him, testing him, and saying, Is it right for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

^{4 Ref} And he said in answer, Have you not seen in the Writings, that he who made them at the first made them male and female, and said,

^{5 Ref} For this cause will a man go away from his father and mother, and be joined to his wife; and the two will become one flesh?

^{6 Ref} So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Then let not that which has been joined by God be parted by man.

^{7 Ref} They say to him, Why then did Moses give orders that a husband might give her a statement in writing and be free from her?

^{8 Ref} He says to them, Moses, because of your hard hearts, let you put away your wives: but it has not been so from the first.

^{9 Ref} And I say to you, Whoever puts away his wife for any other cause than the loss of her virtue, and takes another, is a false husband: and he who takes her as his wife when she is put away, is no true husband to her.

^{10 Ref} The disciples say to him, If this is the position of a man in relation to his wife, it is better not to be married.

^{11 Ref} But he said to them, Not all men are able to take in this saying, but only those to whom it is given.

^{12 Ref} For there are men who, from birth, were without sex: and there are some who were made so by men: and there are others who have made themselves so for the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to take it, let him take it.

^{13 Ref} Then some people took little children to him, so that he might put his hands on them in blessing: and the disciples said sharp words to them.

^{14 Ref} But Jesus said, Let the little ones come to me, and do not keep them away: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

^{15 Ref} And he put his hands on them, and went away.

^{16 Ref} And one came to him and said, Master, what good thing have I to do, so that I may have eternal life?

^{17 Ref} And he said to him, Why are you questioning me about what is good? One there is who is good: but if you have a desire to go into life, keep the rules of the law.

^{18 Ref} He says to him, Which? And Jesus said, Do not put anyone to death, Do not be untrue in married life, Do not take what is not yours, Do not give false witness,

^{19 Ref} Give honour to your father and your mother: and, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself.

^{20 Ref} The young man says to him, All these things have I done: what more is there?

^{21 Ref} Jesus said to him, If you have a desire to be complete, go, get money for your property, and give it to the poor, and you will have wealth in heaven: and come after me.

^{22 Ref} But hearing these words the young man went away sorrowing: for he had much property.

^{23 Ref} And Jesus said to his disciples, Truly I say to you, It is hard for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of heaven.

^{24 Ref} And again I say to you, It is simpler for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of God.

^{25 Ref} And the disciples, hearing this, were greatly surprised, saying, Who then may have salvation?

^{26 Ref} And Jesus, looking at them, said, With men this is not possible; but with God all things are possible.

^{27 Ref} Then Peter said to him, See, we have given up everything and have come after you; what then will we have?

^{28 Ref} And Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you that in the time when all things are made new, and the Son of man is seated in his glory, you who have come after me will be seated on twelve seats, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

^{29 Ref} And everyone who has given up houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or child, or land, for my name, will be given a hundred times as much, and have eternal life.

^{30 Ref} But a great number who are first will be last, and some who are last will be first.

^{1 Ref} It happened when Jesus had finished these words, he departed from Galilee, and came into the borders of Judea beyond the Jordan.

^{2 Ref} Great multitudes followed him, and he healed them there.

^{3 Ref} Pharisees came to him, testing him, and saying, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?"

^{4 Ref} He answered, "Haven't you read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female,

^{5 Ref} and said, 'For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall join to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh?'

^{6 Ref} So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don't let man tear apart."

^{7 Ref} They asked him, "Why then did Moses command us to give her a bill of divorce, and divorce her?"

^{8 Ref} He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been so.

^{9 Ref} I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries her when she is divorced commits adultery."

^{10 Ref} His disciples said to him, "If this is the case of the man with his wife, it is not expedient to marry."

^{11 Ref} But he said to them, "Not all men can receive this saying, but those to whom it is given.

^{12 Ref} For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven's sake. He who is able to receive it, let him receive it."

^{13 Ref} Then little children were brought to him, that he should lay his hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them.

^{14 Ref} But Jesus said, "Allow the little children, and don't forbid them to come to me; for to such belongs the Kingdom of Heaven."

^{15 Ref} He laid his hands on them, and departed from there.

^{16 Ref} Behold, one came to him and said, "Good teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?"

^{17 Ref} He said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but one, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."

^{18 Ref} He said to him, "Which ones?" Jesus said, "'You shall not murder.' 'You shall not commit adultery.' 'You shall not steal.' 'You shall not offer false testimony.'

^{19 Ref} 'Honor your father and mother.' And, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"

^{20 Ref} The young man said to him, "All these things I have observed from my youth. What do I still lack?"

^{21 Ref} Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

^{22 Ref} But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sad, for he was one who had great possessions.

^{23 Ref} Jesus said to his disciples, "Most assuredly I say to you, a rich man will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven with difficulty.

^{24 Ref} Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God."

^{25 Ref} When the disciples heard it, they were exceedingly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?"

^{26 Ref} Looking at them, Jesus said, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

^{27 Ref} Then Peter answered, "Behold, we have left everything, and followed you. What then will we have?"

^{28 Ref} Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly I tell you that you who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on the throne of his glory, you also will sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

^{29 Ref} Everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, will receive one hundred times, and will inherit eternal life.

^{30 Ref} But many will be last who are first; and first who are last.

^{4 Ref} And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

^{5 Ref} And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

^{6 Ref} Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

^{7 Ref} They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

^{8 Ref} He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

^{9 Ref} And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

^{10 Ref} His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.

^{11 Ref} But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.

^{12 Ref} For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

^{13 Ref} Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.

^{14 Ref} But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

^{15 Ref} And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

^{16 Ref} And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

^{17 Ref} And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

^{18 Ref} He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

^{19 Ref} Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

^{20 Ref} The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

^{21 Ref} Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

^{22 Ref} But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

^{23 Ref} Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

^{24 Ref} And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

^{25 Ref} When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?

^{26 Ref} But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

^{27 Ref} Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?

^{28 Ref} And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

^{29 Ref} And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

^{30 Ref} But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
