^{1 Ref} And Israel went on his journey with all he had, and came to Beer-sheba, where he made offerings to the God of his father Isaac.

^{2 Ref} And God said to Israel in a night-vision, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I.

^{3 Ref} And he said, I am God, the God of your father: go down to Egypt without fear, for I will make a great nation of you there:

^{4 Ref} I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will see that you come back again, and at your death Joseph will put his hands on your eyes.

^{5 Ref} Then Jacob went on from Beer-sheba; and the sons of Jacob took their father and their little ones and their wives in the carts which Pharaoh had sent for them.

^{6 Ref} And they took their cattle and all the goods which they had got in the land of Canaan, and came to Egypt, even Jacob and all his seed:

⁷ His sons and his sons' sons, his daughters and his daughters' sons and all his family he took with him into Egypt.

^{8 Ref} And these are the names of the children of Israel who came into Egypt, even Jacob and all his sons: Reuben, Jacob's oldest son;

⁹ And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch and Pallu and Hezron and Carmi;

^{10 Ref} And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar and Shaul, the son of a woman of Canaan;

^{11 Ref} And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari;

^{12 Ref} And the sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Perez and Zerah: but Er and Onan had come to their death in the land of Canaan; and the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

^{13 Ref} And the sons of Issachar: Tola and Puah and Job and Shimron;

^{14 Ref} And the sons of Zebulun: Sered and Elon and Jahleel;

^{15 Ref} All these, together with his daughter Dinah, were the children of Leah, whom Jacob had by her in Paddan-aram; they were thirty-three in number.

^{16 Ref} And the sons of Gad: Ziphion and Haggi, Shuni and Ezbon, Eri and Arodi and Areli;

^{17 Ref} And the sons of Asher: Jimnah and Ishvah and Ishvi and Beriah, and Sarah, their sister; and the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.

^{18 Ref} These are the children of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah, and Jacob had these sixteen children by her.

^{19 Ref} The sons of Jacob's wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

^{20 Ref} And Joseph had Manasseh and Ephraim in the land of Egypt, by Asenath, the daughter of Poti-phera, priest of On.

^{21 Ref} And the sons of Benjamin were Belah and Becher and Ashbel, Gera and Naaman, Ehi and Rosh, Muppim and Huppim and Ard.

²² All these were the children of Rachel whom Jacob had by her, fourteen persons.

^{23 Ref} And the son of Dan was Hushim.

^{24 Ref} And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel and Guni and Jezer and Shillem.

^{25 Ref} These were the children of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel, seven persons.

^{26 Ref} All the persons who came with Jacob into Egypt, the offspring of his body, were sixty-six, without taking into account the wives of Jacob's sons.

^{27 Ref} And the sons of Joseph whom he had in Egypt were two. Seventy persons of the family of Jacob came into Egypt.

^{28 Ref} Now he had sent Judah before him to Goshen, to get word from Joseph; and so they came to the land of Goshen.

^{29 Ref} And Joseph got his carriage ready and went to Goshen for the meeting with his father; and when he came before him, he put his arms round his neck, weeping.

^{30 Ref} And Israel said to Joseph, Now that I have seen you living again, I am ready for death.

^{31 Ref} And Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's people, I will go and give the news to Pharaoh, and say to him, My brothers and my father's people, from the land of Canaan, have come to me;

^{32 Ref} And these men are keepers of sheep and owners of cattle, and have with them their flocks and their herds and all they have.

^{33 Ref} Now when Pharaoh sends for you and says, What is your business?

^{34 Ref} You are to say, Your servants have been keepers of cattle from our early days up to now, like our fathers; in this way you will be able to have the land of Goshen for yourselves; because keepers of sheep are unclean in the eyes of the Egyptians.

^{1 Ref} And Israel journeyeth, and all that he hath, and cometh in to Beer-Sheba, and sacrificeth sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac;

^{2 Ref} and God speaketh to Israel in visions of the night, and saith, `Jacob, Jacob;' and he saith, `Here `am' I.'

^{3 Ref} And He saith, `I `am' God, God of thy father, be not afraid of going down to Egypt, for for a great nation I set thee there;

^{4 Ref} I -- I go down with thee to Egypt, and I -- I also certainly bring thee up, and Joseph doth put his hand on thine eyes.'

^{5 Ref} And Jacob riseth from Beer-Sheba, and the sons of Israel bear away Jacob their father, And their infants, and their wives, in the waggons which Pharaoh hath sent to bear him,

^{6 Ref} and they take their cattle, and their goods which they have acquired in the land of Canaan, and come into Egypt -- Jacob, and all his seed with him,

⁷ his sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, yea, all his seed he brought with him into Egypt.

^{8 Ref} And these `are' the names of the sons of Israel who are coming into Egypt: Jacob and his sons, Jacob's first-born, Reuben.

⁹ And sons of Reuben: Hanoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi.

^{10 Ref} And sons of Simeon: Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul son of the Canaanitess.

^{11 Ref} And sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

^{12 Ref} And sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zarah, (and Er and Onan die in the land of Canaan.) And sons of Pharez are Hezron and Hamul.

^{13 Ref} And sons of Issachar: Tola, and Phuvah, and Job, and Shimron.

^{14 Ref} And sons of Zebulun: Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel.

^{15 Ref} These `are' sons of Leah whom she bare to Jacob in Padan-Aram, and Dinah his daughter; all the persons of his sons and his daughters `are' thirty and three.

^{16 Ref} And sons of Gad: Ziphion, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli.

^{17 Ref} And sons of Asher: Jimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and Serah their sister. And sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.

^{18 Ref} These `are' sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and she beareth these to Jacob -- sixteen persons.

^{20 Ref} And born to Joseph in the land of Egypt (whom Asenath daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, hath borne to him) `are' Manasseh and Ephraim.

^{26 Ref} All the persons who are coming to Jacob to Egypt, coming out of his thigh, apart from the wives of Jacob's sons, all the persons `are' sixty and six.

^{27 Ref} And the sons of Joseph who have been born to him in Egypt `are' two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who are coming into Egypt `are' seventy.

^{28 Ref} And Judah he hath sent before him unto Joseph, to direct before him to Goshen, and they come into the land of Goshen;

^{29 Ref} and Joseph harnesseth his chariot, and goeth up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and appeareth unto him, and falleth on his neck, and weepeth on his neck again;

^{30 Ref} and Israel saith unto Joseph, `Let me die this time, after my seeing thy face, for thou `art' yet alive.'

^{31 Ref} And Joseph saith unto his brethren, and unto the house of his father, `I go up, and declare to Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and the house of my father who `are' in the land of Canaan have come in unto me;

^{32 Ref} and the men `are' feeders of a flock, for they have been men of cattle; and their flock, and their herd, and all that they have, they have brought.'

^{33 Ref} `And it hath come to pass when Pharaoh calleth for you, and hath said, What `are' your works?

^{34 Ref} that ye have said, Thy servants have been men of cattle from our youth, even until now, both we and our fathers, -- in order that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen, for the abomination of the Egyptians is every one feeding a flock.'

^{1 Ref} Israel traveled with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac.

^{2 Ref} God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, "Jacob, Jacob!" He said, "Here I am."

^{3 Ref} He said, "I am God, the God of your father. Don't be afraid to go down into Egypt; for there I will make of you a great nation.

^{4 Ref} I will go down with you into Egypt. I will also surely bring you up again. Joseph will close your eyes."

^{5 Ref} Jacob rose up from Beersheba, and the sons of Israel carried Jacob, their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

^{6 Ref} They took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt-- Jacob, and all his seed with him,

⁷ his sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, and he brought all his seed with him into Egypt.

^{8 Ref} These are the names of the children of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn.

^{19 Ref} The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin.

^{21 Ref} The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.

²² These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob: all the souls were fourteen.

^{23 Ref} The son of Dan: Hushim.

^{24 Ref} The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

^{26 Ref} All the souls who came with Jacob into Egypt, who were his direct descendants, besides Jacob's sons' wives, all the souls were sixty-six.

^{27 Ref} The sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were seventy.

^{28 Ref} He sent Judah before him to Joseph, to show the way before him to Goshen, and they came into the land of Goshen.

^{29 Ref} Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel, his father, in Goshen. He presented himself to him, and fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.

^{30 Ref} Israel said to Joseph, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive."

^{31 Ref} Joseph said to his brothers, and to his father's house, "I will go up, and speak with Pharaoh, and will tell him, 'My brothers, and my father's house, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.

^{32 Ref} These men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of cattle, and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.'

^{33 Ref} It will happen, when Pharaoh summons you, and will say, 'What is your occupation?'

^{34 Ref} that you shall say, 'Your servants have been keepers of cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers:' that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians."
