Matthew 28

Bible in Basic English (BBE)

1 Ref Now late on the Sabbath, when the dawn of the first day of the week was near, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the place where his body was.

2 Ref And there was a great earth-shock; for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, rolling back the stone, took his seat on it.

3 Ref His form was shining like the light, and his clothing was white as snow:

4 Ref And for fear of him the watchmen were shaking, and became as dead men.

5 Ref And the angel said to the women, Have no fear: for I see that you are searching for Jesus, who was put to death on the cross.

6 Ref He is not here, for he has come to life again, even as he said. Come, see the Lord's resting-place.

7 Ref And go quickly and give his disciples the news that he has come back from the dead, and is going before you into Galilee; there you will see him, as I have said to you.

8 Ref And they went away quickly, with fear and great joy, to give his disciples the news.

9 Ref And on the way, Jesus came to them, saying, Be glad. And they came and put their hands on his feet, and gave him worship.

10 Ref Then said Jesus to them, Have no fear: go and give word to my brothers to go into Galilee, and there they will see me.

11 Ref Now, while they were going, some of the watchmen came into the town and gave news to the chief priests of all the things which had taken place.

12 Ref And when they had come together with those in authority, and had made their decision, they gave much money to the watchmen, saying,

13 Ref Say, His disciples came by night and took him away secretly while we were sleeping.

14 Ref And if this comes to the ruler's ears, we will see that he does not make you responsible.

15 Ref So they took the money, and did as they had been ordered: and this account has been current among the Jews till the present time.

16 Ref But the eleven disciples went into Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had given them orders to go.

17 Ref And when they saw him they gave him worship: but some were in doubt.

18 Ref And Jesus came to them and said, All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.

19 Ref Go then, and make disciples of all the nations, giving them baptism in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit:

20 Ref Teaching them to keep all the rules which I have given you: and see, I am ever with you, even to the end of the world.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

1 Ref And on the eve of the sabbaths, at the dawn, toward the first of the sabbaths, came Mary the Magdalene, and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre,

2 Ref and lo, there came a great earthquake, for a messenger of the Lord, having come down out of heaven, having come, did roll away the stone from the door, and was sitting upon it,

3 Ref and his countenance was as lightning, and his clothing white as snow,

4 Ref and from the fear of him did the keepers shake, and they became as dead men.

5 Ref And the messenger answering said to the women, `Fear not ye, for I have known that Jesus, who hath been crucified, ye seek;

6 Ref he is not here, for he rose, as he said; come, see the place where the Lord was lying;

7 Ref and having gone quickly, say ye to his disciples, that he rose from the dead; and lo, he doth go before you to Galilee, there ye shall see him; lo, I have told you.'

8 Ref And having gone forth quickly from the tomb, with fear and great joy, they ran to tell to his disciples;

9 Ref and as they were going to tell to his disciples, then lo, Jesus met them, saying, `Hail!' and they having come near, laid hold of his feet, and did bow to him.

10 Ref Then saith Jesus to them, `Fear ye not, go away, tell to my brethren that they may go away to Galilee, and there they shall see me.'

11 Ref And while they are going on, lo, certain of the watch having come to the city, told to the chief priests all the things that happened,

12 Ref and having been gathered together with the elders, counsel also having taken, they gave much money to the soldiers,

13 Ref saying, `Say ye, that his disciples having come by night, stole him -- we being asleep;

14 Ref and if this be heard by the governor, we will persuade him, and you keep free from anxiety.'

15 Ref And they, having received the money, did as they were taught, and this account was spread abroad among Jews till this day.

16 Ref And the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mount where Jesus appointed them,

17 Ref and having seen him, they bowed to him, but some did waver.

18 Ref And having come near, Jesus spake to them, saying, `Given to me was all authority in heaven and on earth;

19 Ref having gone, then, disciple all the nations, (baptizing them -- to the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

20 Ref teaching them to observe all, whatever I did command you,) and lo, I am with you all the days -- till the full end of the age.'

3 Ref His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.

4 Ref For fear of him, the guards shook, and became like dead men.

5 Ref The angel answered the women, "Don't be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus, who has been crucified.

6 Ref He is not here, for he has risen, just like he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying.

7 Ref Go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has risen from the dead, and behold, he goes before you into Galilee; there you will see him.' Behold, I have told you."

8 Ref They departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring his disciples word.

9 Ref As they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, "Rejoice!" They came and took hold of his feet, and worshiped him.

10 Ref Then Jesus said to them, "Don't be afraid. Go tell my brothers{The word for "brothers" here may be also correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."} that they should go into Galilee, and there they will see me."

11 Ref Now while they were going, behold, some of the guards came into the city, and told the chief priests all the things that had happened.

12 Ref When they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave a large amount of silver to the soldiers,

13 Ref saying, "Say that his disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.

14 Ref If this comes to the governor's ears, we will persuade him and make you free of worry."

15 Ref So they took the money and did as they were told. This saying was spread abroad among the Jews, and continues until this day.

16 Ref But the eleven disciples went into Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had sent them.

17 Ref When they saw him, they bowed down to him, but some doubted.

18 Ref Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.

19 Ref Therefore go, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 Ref teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
