2 Samuel 7

World English Bible (WEB)

1 Ref It happened, when the king lived in his house, and Yahweh had given him rest from all his enemies round about,

2 Ref that the king said to Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within curtains.

3 Ref Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in your heart; for Yahweh is with you.

4 Ref It happened the same night, that the word of Yahweh came to Nathan, saying,

5 Ref Go and tell my servant David, Thus says Yahweh, Shall you build me a house for me to dwell in?

6 Ref for I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tent.

7 Ref In all places in which I have walked with all the children of Israel, spoke I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people Israel, saying, Why have you not built me a house of cedar?

8 Ref Now therefore thus shall you tell my servant David, Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people, over Israel;

9 Ref and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a great name, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.

10 Ref I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first,

11 Ref and [as] from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. Moreover Yahweh tells you that Yahweh will make you a house.

12 Ref When your days are fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who shall proceed out of your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

13 Ref He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

14 Ref I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;

15 Ref but my loving kindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you.

16 Ref Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure for ever before you: your throne shall be established forever.

17 Ref According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David.

18 Ref Then David the king went in, and sat before Yahweh; and he said, Who am I, Lord Yahweh, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?

19 Ref This was yet a small thing in your eyes, Lord Yahweh; but you have spoken also of your servant's house for a great while to come; and this [too] after the manner of men, Lord Yahweh!

20 Ref What can David say more to you? for you know your servant, Lord Yahweh.

21 Ref For your word's sake, and according to your own heart, have you worked all this greatness, to make your servant know it.

22 Ref Therefore you are great, Yahweh God: for there is none like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

23 Ref What one nation in the earth is like your people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and awesome things for your land, before your people, whom you redeem to you out of Egypt, [from] the nations and their gods?

24 Ref You did establish to yourself your people Israel to be a people to you forever; and you, Yahweh, became their God.

25 Ref Now, Yahweh God, the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, confirm you it forever, and do as you have spoken.

26 Ref Let your name be magnified forever, saying, Yahweh of hosts is God over Israel; and the house of your servant David shall be established before you.

27 Ref For you, Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel, have revealed to your servant, saying, I will build you a house: therefore has your servant found in his heart to pray this prayer to you.

28 Ref Now, O Lord Yahweh, you are God, and your words are truth, and you have promised this good thing to your servant:

29 Ref now therefore let it please you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, Lord Yahweh, have spoken it: and with your blessing let the house of your servant be blessed forever.

2 Ref That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.

3 Ref And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee.

4 Ref And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying,

5 Ref Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?

8 Ref Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:

9 Ref And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.

10 Ref Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,

11 Ref And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.

12 Ref And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

13 Ref He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

15 Ref But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

16 Ref And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

17 Ref According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

18 Ref Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

19 Ref And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?

20 Ref And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant.

21 Ref For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them.

22 Ref Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

23 Ref And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?

24 Ref For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God.

25 Ref And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, establish it for ever, and do as thou hast said.

26 Ref And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.

27 Ref For thou, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.

28 Ref And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:

29 Ref Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.
